Sound Deadening Questions

Heya,

So I've got a 72 beetle as my project car (it's not really a project but it's my weekend car nonetheless).

As is normal for these, most of the factory tar boards have been taken out of the doors and such.

I want to put some sound deadening in the doors, maybe under the carpets and in the luggage area in the back.

What would you suggest besides just buying some of the sound dampening sheets from Autostyle?

I'm not expecting miracles from a 44 year old car to be as quiet as a new one, just maybe a little less wind / engine noise.

You can use one of the many good brands available locally eg. Dynamat, Damplifier Pro, STP, Roadkill. It makes a big difference if you do the entire interior of the vehicle.

I did the entire interior of my Polo from firewall to the rear bumper including the roof with Stinger Roadkill. Now it is so quiet inside the car I can hear the squeaks coming from the suspension :crylaugh: . Need new suspension bushes.

Haha, I'm not looking to go so extreme, just the doors and luggage compartment where the engine sits are my main concern, I'll still have a couple of squeaks and rattles but not nearly as many as you'd expect from a car as old as it is, I also need to replace the door and window rubbers for wind noise reduction...

Personally, I'd keep the Beetle standard. Light and noisy.
 
Buy this from builders. Works wonders for sound deadening. I also bought high density spounge from Foam Fundi. Placed that on any spaces under the backboard.

Nope. Never had a problem. I always placed it under the cars material covering. I got a kicker setup and its humming in my sedan. Just need to.sort the rattle on the number plate
 
Awesome. I need to sort the number plate rattle out. But i know what to do. High density foam between the metal and covering of the boot lid.
