what if i tell you I cant get sound to work in linux? gonna tell me told you so too?but i shall not.

Well, number one, check if there are any devices listed as no installed in device manager...
What is the status?

Wrong. Various manufacturers cannot supply drivers which will work flawlessly on the platform provided by Vista.If your using on board sound go to your mobo manufacturer's site and to the specific model and get the latest drivers for your sound card.
It's 100% guaranteed this is a driver issue and not a vista issue.
I tried to install the VISTA AC'97 audio codecs from realtek, but it said This driver package is only for Vista/Vista 64... !!!!!!!!!!!
