Hi I have no sound on Vista, and I don't know if and what I should install/do to make i work, can someone help?

do you have the latest drivers for you motherboard -on-board sound/pci sound card - had the same problem with my Asus mobo - after updating drivers my sound worked.

Maybe your volume is set to 0. Vista sets each app's sound vol level seperately.

Well, number one, check if there are any devices listed as no installed in device manager...

What is the status?

5.1

I use 5.1 logitech speakers and i cant seem to get surround sound?
But when i do the test all speakers work but when i listen to music only two work? Please help

but i shall not.

Told you so...
what if i tell you I cant get sound to work in linux? gonna tell me told you so too?

Get the latest drivers is what i'd suggest...

For how long have you been using vista? (seem to recall you mentioned using it a while ago...) Cos what i'm just wondering is whether your sound just stopped working now or whether you haven't gotten it to work in the first place.

Under Sound, video, and game controllers is listed Realtek High Definition Audio, which I installed...

But still no sound...:(

Guys............... it can be fixed.
why fix it? oh wait, mine on linux isn't broken in the first place....

but anyways, for vista, try removing each and every damned thing to do with the device. then delete the dll's, .sys files and each and every .inf you can find. then try installing the driver again. *maybe* it'll work

If your using on board sound go to your mobo manufacturer's site and to the specific model and get the latest drivers for your sound card.

It's 100% guaranteed this is a driver issue and not a vista issue.

I tried to install the VISTA AC'97 audio codecs from realtek, but it said This driver package is only for Vista/Vista 64... !!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong. Various manufacturers cannot supply drivers which will work flawlessly on the platform provided by Vista.

Phone M$ and ask them - after all you PAID for the software so it's your right to get them to fix it....

/me ends sarcastic response to the "Microsoft is better than Linux because you paid for it, so can sue if something goes wrong" argument.

Wrong. Various manufacturers cannot supply drivers which will work flawlessly on the platform provided by Vista.

That would be the manufacturer's fault for not being able to get their hardware to work correctly, not being able to write proper drivers. Since many companies are able to.

The blame is not ms if some companies are able to provide proper drivers but others aren't.
