Sound options + advice

Like those 2 are even remotely related

LOL. True... When they actually work*, the Cyborg keyboard is in another league of failure.

* my grudge with the Blackwidow is that it uses Cherry MX Blue switches, which are actually supposed to be for typists. It's amazing how Razer (and others) have sold the "clicky" sound to the masses buying their junk. :D

Yeah, silly how people buy keyboards to type with. Imagine that.

Not sure what you're getting at or defending? Do you know how high the failure rate of Razer products is? Especially the Lycosa?

Razer is a privately held computer peripherals manufacturer specializing in products specifically marketed to gamers. Razer's main slogan is 'FOR GAMERS, BY GAMERS'.

Typists, you say? :D

I have used razer products for a long time and never had anything fail on me hey. They make wonderful products, if they had made the mamba ambidextrous i would have bought it today as well. If it wasn't for razer i don't know how a leftie like myself could have had such amazing mice. Pity they fked us on the mamba. I have owned about 5 difference razer mouses and all have been amazing.

I do know, which is why I was laughing at you comparing a rubber dome keyboard that breaks a lot (Lycosa), with a mechanical one that doesn't and is probably Razer's first well-made product since the original Boomslang (Blackwidow).

Yes, they market the Blackwidow as a gaming keyboard, but in reality a keyboard makes basically 0 difference to how you play a game, not like the way a mouse does. Therefore it's all down to how it types, and once you've typed on a mechanical keyboard it just feels weird going back to those gooey ones. AFAIK the only other mechanical keyboards with backlighting are the Decks and they are

1) Insanely expensive and
2) Not available locally so you have to import them.

edit: killadoob, you're very lucky then. Every Razer product I have ever owned or used has been poorly built, felt cheap and plasticky and had some sort of issue. Except for the Boomslang and the Blackwidow.

Razer makes well designed/thought out products. Especially mouse pads.

I have about a 10 - 15% return rate on Razer products. 50% return rate on the Lycosa, that's easy to work out as I just stopped selling after a 4th one was returned.

90% agree with you. I don't agree with you about keyboard making no difference. Yes mechanical switches are a huge step up from rubber dome cheapies, but specifically Cherry MX Blue switches, as used in the Blackwidow, are the least suitable Cherry MX switches for gaming, because they do not work well for multiple keystrokes/hammering, among other things. Cherry MX Black and Red switches are regarded best for gaming.

You do know that there is a version of the Blackwidow with the brown switches in, right?

It's really mostly subjective which ones are the best for gaming, but most people complain largely about the clicking sound it makes. I did read that article a while ago as well, but actually most of the other sites says the blacks are best for playing games and the blues 2nd. I have seen some say the high actuation point on the blues make it harder to double-tap buttons but honestly, it's still much easier than any rubber dome keyboard anyways. Some people just really like to nitpick, they're worse than audiophiles. To show you how subjective it really is:

It basically just says, it's down to personal preference.

Yeah, but AFAIK the Blackwidow Stealth is only available from the Razer site? As in local suppliers won't be getting it. At least for now...

I didn't notice until now, seems choices are always just very limited over here.....

Sound is very good but i don't notice that much difference with music in all honesty but then these are perhaps not the best for music or my settings are wrong. My 5.1 speakers have far better sound in my opinion, again comparing chalk and cheese perhaps. Also it could be the mp3's are not that good but i did test flak and also not mind blowing, sounds about normal. There seems to be very little bass. Could perhaps be my settings, i will have to have a chat with irg.

Game sounds are insane, if i could get it louder i think i would be in absolute in awe, no doubt bf 3 sounds 10x better than anything i have used. The only issue is the game is so soft for some reason, perhaps someone can help me with that(yes i have turned it up in game). Mic is clear and works very well except i struggle to smoke now but i can manage that. The mic should rotate a bit more. Very comfortable, not hurting my ears at all. The mic is very clear.

Overall a great buy but i need to get the games louder and perhaps tweak a few things here or there.

OMF i found the gain option. Now it's sounding bloody awesome :D. Holy shyte that makes a huge difference. I won't delete the my first few thoughts as it may help someone down the line haha but wow gain is the key. Have not tested the games with the new gain yet as i need to sleep. Bass Yea baby :D. I will test bf 3 tomorrow but wow ya if you want a good gaming headset this is bloody epic. When i get bf 3 working this will get 10/10 on every category possible :D.

Also do not use any of the presets. I run mine with 7.1 simulation on headphones, and have set the headphones to the Xonar Xense setting.

In case anyone was wondering :p
I think I'm going to just get a sound card for now, and see what kind of a difference that makes.

Cool but what sound card are you getting? No point getting 1.4k sound card when the xense is only 500 more.

But I dont like the PC 350 :p Do not want!
Maybe buy the Xense, test the PC 350, then see which headphones to keep, and sell the other, or get new phones... :D

With Razer Carcharias? Silly because for R600 more you get a product designed for what you're looking for (gaming) that will otherwise cost R1,500 - R2,000 but it WILL make a huge difference nonetheless with Dolby presets and other Xonar settings etc.
