OK i see cmedia finally released vista drivers on there site for pci chipset 8738.
I downloaded these drivers and installed.I now have a problem where the bass does not play through the subwoofer. If i install the original drivers from this card i get bsods sometimes and since i had vista i always had crashes due to the sound drivers from this 3 year old card:(.

Now when i test the speakers in vista control panel i get all the sounds even the sub woofer works, but when playing music or a movie there seems to be no bass.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail. The only way i get all my sound properly is by installing the old drivers which generally give me bsods in vista at random times.

So i was thinking if some one had problems like this what did you do.
I was thinking of buying me a vista compatible sound card with 5.1 sound but i really like my old one as it has all the frills on it like digital out and inputs spdf aux and rca outs and ins...I really love this card and it works really well in xp when i dual boot into that os.

I see my on board sound is six channel,Can anyone confirm this for this model motherboard ga-vm800pmc.
I see on gigabyte it says its 6.1 but i look at back and to me i dont see how it could be

You know whats really funny, this is the first time i am looking at the motherboards manual..lol

Get yourself a new soundcard bro, take my word for it, it will be worth it. You can get a Vista compatible one for under R400 which will fit your needs ;)

Before i buy one,;let me first see how the onboard 6.1 works:D
Hopefully no bsods in vista.Tera i will buy me another card at the end of the month budget allowing:D.

I really enjoyed vista but bsods more than 12 times a week is ridicules:(

i remember once i had a sort of alike prblem with sound only comming thru 2 speakers and not all 5. look for an option called "speaker fill". it's not the proper 5.1, sort of an emulation., but it lets sound play thru all the speakers.

as for a new sound card, go for it, you could always install both and use the cmedia for recording only.
btw, if the soundcard's 3 years old, how old's the system?

Let me give you a tip:

Get this freeware program:
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

When you removed the old soundcard, uninstall it's drivers with Revo. It will delete all traces. Do this for any programs that have issues and need to be reinstalled.

This could have done wonders for your Firefox issues. I found it in my SA Computer Magazine subscription disc ;)

my system is fairly new,but the only old thing is my beloved sound card:(

Yes the motherboard is 6 channel you have to enable the subwoofer and rear channels with the driver software or they will just behave as mic and line-in ports I had the same onboard sound.

With regards to enabling the subwoofer on the c-media you can try Ac3filter http://ac3filter.net/ I was able to upmix audio tracks to 6 channels and enable my subwoofer with some DVDs and mp3s using it, takes a while to figure out but read the help file.

I think vista drivers swap the sub with the rear speakers some how,I read on another cmedia forum that this is what happens.Well i changed the mini stereo jacks around now i have bass but rear is faint sound.well i decided to take tera's advice.
