Hi maybe someone in the forum can help me with this problem. I have a Acer aspire 3680 and the sound (headset) does not work after leaving it on for a couple of hours. This is not always the case. If I switch it off it will work again the next day. Below find a letter that I wrote to acer.

To Acer

I just received my laptop back from your repair Centrum in Johannesburg. This was now the fourth trip to the workshop. I send it in the first time and told them that if you put the laptop on and use a headset to listen to music it works fine but if you leave the laptop on for a while and you use the headset again there is no sound. Then you need to switch it of for a couple of hours and then it will work.

The first time they told me that they replaced the motherboard and fixed the problem. When I got the laptop back I found that the wireless button was broken off and immediately returned the unit. It came back again and this time they did not put the cooling fan in and it overheated. It was send back the next day and the cooling unit was put back.

I tested it and found that the sound card still does not work when I leave it on for a while.
I send the laptop in again for repairs and telling the people what was wrong with the laptop. Today I got it back and the sound card still does not work after leaving it on for about 45 minutes. I phoned acer and told them that it does not work and told them that if they look on the internet they will see that I am not the only one with this problem. Up to date nobody knows how to fix the problem. It is suggested that it is the sound chip that overheat. I do not know if this is true but do know that this is unacceptable that I have to keep on sending this laptop for repairs and it is not repaired.

To date the only solution I could find for the problem was to buy the bluetooth module and to use a bluetooth headset. Unfortunately this will cost me an extra R1000 plus a headset.
This to me is unacceptable. I googled the problem and this is what I found. As you can see I am not the only one.
I spoke to Dave Malherbe a month ago and he told me that he would take the problem to the suppliers and see if they van fix the problem. This he told me would take about 3 weeks. I phoned acer, e-mailed then and left a message but to date nobody came back to me to fix the problem.

I bought an Acer laptop a few months ago, sent it back twice. Heating problems, they replaced the motherboard and a fan. Also had the LCD screen replaced since it had a black dot right in the middle of the screen.
However, I must say although I initially had problems with the laptop, Acer support was quite helpful and fixed everything no questions asked. I haven't had a problem since.

The area to the immediate right of the touchpad gets very warm on my laptop; do you experience the same? Just wondering if this is a standard Acer problem that it heats up quite a bit in that area anyway?
