Hi guys, Is there any way to soundproof a server? These things are quite noisy. Any solutions out there.

I use mine as XBMC server via HDMI, drilled hole through wall and placed server in next room which is my study. The noise in lounge was not appreciated by the SO, no matter what you do you will not get it dead silent

See if you can get a rotary fan instead of one with blades. They are much quieter

Build it quiet: the days of noisy boxes are long over.

Stuck my HP microserver in the ceiling above the TV with a 5m hdmi cable, wireless keyboard and mouse, works great.
(Set the bios that the pc boots when power is connected). So no ladders needed any-more :-)
I'm just a little concerned about summer time temperatures up there.

Ok this is one of those rack servers, sound like turbines starting; did not know it was that load

Those servers are made like that... they are for a server room's not home use :p

"trying to make it softer" will ultimately temper with the temperature/over heating which will negatively affect the server...

Sell it and buy a proper HTPC! You wont be able to make it quiet. Or leave it in the next room.

and deaden the server due to lack of ventilation...LOL

No! Dont be silly!

I hear if you have an expensive amp, you can get much better sound quality by doing the same thing. Apparently it insulates the sound much better.

With computers, the blanket reflects escaping electrons back into the CPU and causes a quantum tunneling effect that makes the computer run 2x faster. You might smell smoke initially as the computer transitions to the quantum realm, but once its there, DAMN, it is fast!
