We have a USB powered 4x VGA input 1x Output to presentation projector. This enables us to connect 4 x laptops, and switch/choose between the laptops, which on displays to the projector. This switch has recently started malfunctioning, and we need a replacement.

Any idea where we might find a similar but reliable device.

Thanks

I have a couple of 8 port KVM Switch's available.

Specs here: http://www.cablemax.co.nz/Portals/0/store/pdf/kag104d.pdf

PM me with an offer.

Those are nice, but a bit on the large side, besides, having double the VGA ports I need.

Space on the table is already cramped with 3x laptops, and a computer, at the back of the church, and well, really, I would not know what to offer you. As I have not the foggiest what those nice items are worth, and I figure they are worth something ... :)

Murphy the bugger, came visiting, while we had a congress on ... :(

i remember when we tried sourcing these things.. it was very very hard to find and i think we manage to twist our distributors arm to specially ship one in for us.. if i were you, i would try getting it from china..

i have bought things here a few times with no issues.. just need some patience if you are not paying the best price for shipping.. or use something like aramex global shopper if you need it here fast..

Thanks, if the one local crowd who advertise a suitable unit don't have in stock, or the price is not as advertised, I will give them a try.

And yes sourcing these things is a pain in the rear end.

That looks pretty close to the one we have ... , thanks, that is the type of item I am looking for.

Cool. Where in SA are you? We offer collection in Cape Town, or can send it with SAPO / Courier

I'm in Bloem, will show it to the folks at church, that work, with me on the audio/presentation/recording and hear what they say, I take it, that that deice should work, fine, on the end of a 25 meter cable ... , because ours works on short cable, right at projector, and the far end of the 25 meter cable, but when we move it, to the other end of the cable, at the back of the church where the computers and open table for laptops are, it, does not get detected by the projector. Plug, the cable into the Laptops, or Desktop computer and the projector is happy. Plug the switching device in, and projector no more happy.

Are you saying that one of your input devices needs to connect from 25 Metres away?

Not sure how long that cable is 20 or 25 meters, so I'll go for 25 meters, as max.

Projector sits at front of stage, then cable runs straight to back of church, where computer table is right next to mixer/audio control desk is.

I guess is, that the kvm switch, does not get detected, as it does not have enough amperage to "drive" the long cable. That is due to cable impedance or "loss". But then I have no qualifications to make that that judgement and why it is a guess. Maybe plugging in a USB cable from each computer would help or just a 2 amp phone charger or RaspberryPi power supply. But that will have to wait till I get back from leave in 2 weeks time.

Please send me an email with your contact number. I need some more info

E-mail sent :)

Can confirm the 4 port KVM switch works perfectly when placed at the end of a 30 Metre VGA Cable. Even better news is that it draws power from the VGA cable and doesn't need the USB cable plugged in
