Hey Guys

Any idea when SA will be investing in VDSL?

For teh n00bz, VDSL (Very-high-speed Digital Subscriber Line) is basically ADSL on steroids.

If I'm not mistaken I think the highest we've implemented here is ADSL2+?

Most probably... While Chattanooga, TN has 1Gbps fibre in resedential homes we have 384Kb/s copper ****e..
 
VDSL needs to have very short lines to get good speeds, which means Telkom needs to roll out a lot of mini-DSLAMS, and FTTx. Too expensive.

In any case, ADSL 2+ is 24Mbps capable, so no need to upgrade it at this point, since the fastest offering is 10Mbps.
 
Lol, SA might get VDSL when Chattanooga, TN (which I would think isn't that small a town), gets XCVDSL, at speeds where downloading a movie takes seconds, for example.

this country hardly supports normal ADSL, now you asking about something like that? :wtf:

Far as I remember you only get better speeds at distances of 1km or less from the DSLAM. Useless product IMHO. It'd be cheaper to just jump to fiber.

I wouldn't know what to do with that sort of speed, honestly.. And the price is reasonable, about $300 (R2100) per month.. Considering that line speed and uncapped data that's not bad at all... Seeing as we are paying over R1000 per month for 4Mbps..
