Ja, as usual the private sector stepped in a few years ago already to meet the needs of the market and turn a profit in the process. Paxi, Postnet, Pudo, innumerable courier companies of varying efficiency. The cANCer SAPO, with a monopoly and branch in every small town across the country, managed to destroy themselves while sucking up billions in taxpayer funds.

Damn, I hate governments with a passion! Especially of the cANCer variety.

My closest and also my favourite post office was shut down almost 2 years ago. That post master went well out of his way to help me find my packages and I never lost one. I found another one where the post master looks decent but twice as far away as the one I'm supposed to use but I'm still seeing how it goes.
 
When operating expenses (incl staff salaries) are decreases more than budgeted for, the projected loss is reduced and you still get liquidated, it either means the budget was vrot in the first place, or there's far more money going out off the top (non operational).

Someone somewhere is making a lot of money off SAPO.

If you walked into any post office during the last 15 years, this should not come as a shock. Just another casualty of mismanagement and total lack of interest from staff to management. No pride or work ethic! People get paid to show up and hang for the day (and often for not showing up at all). Customers and clients are a real bother. How dare they want service? We get paid anyway.

They are part of a multi-faceted private sector solution. Those not served by couriers are served by Paxi, of which every town has a Pep Stores. The collapse of the SAPO is a result of corrupt cANCer policies, a socialist government kept in power by those not served by couriers or other private sector alternatives.
 
First of all, we must get rid of this BEE regulations without merit which is hindering the growth of S.A. Poor are becoming more and more poor and the educated are leaving this nation to greener pastures. Only God can save S.A.
 
Does anyone know how to get imported things from ebay/ali/etc. Without paying an arm and a leg other than the post office?
 
This is affirmative action and BEE results but will be blamed on apartheid.

Those services still charge twice what the post office used to even after removing the most expensive part of their service. A lot of small towns don't have a post office and the rural areas mostly don't. It's precisely because local businesses have always taken up this part why they could provide the cheap service they did.

Maybe that's why the Post Office is so unprofitable?

SA is a big country and servicing rural areas is expensive. The Post Office had a triple whammy of poor service delivery, lack of trust and underpricing itself in the market. They couldn't increase prices until they improved service delivery to regain trust. It was always going to be a downward spiral once they lost the public trust.

The private sector didn't have that reputational baggage and could more easily enter the market at the true market price.

I guess another government failure attributable to apartheid. I wonder when Lindiwe Zulu is going to arrange the march against apartheid considering the state of the nation and the country. Its about time we march and pray against apartheid. After 30 years of anc rule we can't get rid of the beast! LoL.
 
I just learnt a harsh lesson: don't use the cheapest tracking from Aliexpress. Go through a courier.
3 Post offices in my area have closed, the next closest one is miles away, and the post office doesn't know what to do with my international tracking number because their system doesn't accept it.
