South Africans developing systems to stop lithium batteries from exploding

They used NMC in the earlier versions, and changed to LFP for version 3.
 
Lithium and outdoors in winter might be an issue if not self-heated. The BMS will cut off the battery if I recall correctly if temps hit zero and under which happens in SA.

Thats why cellphone towers still use LA batteries in very cold areas.
They are self heated. The drawback is that this may use some of the internal power.
 
The cost is certainly more, but where this will hurt the most is if the setup needs expanding. In a modular system batteries can be added, while with the Powerwall a new unit needs to be added.
