Southern Suburbs recycling

Just a bit curious as to how recycling work with the various municipalities. In Somerset West there's a weekly recycling collection which, AFAIK - is a service offered by that local municipality; it's not a private thing people have signed up to. Recycling gets collected separately from regular refuse & people get new recycling bags dropped off.

In Rondebosch / Southern Suburbs I've never seen this happening? I live in an apartment and obviously it would be nice if there was a recycling service but am unsure whether there's

a.) a way to lobby for the service to be offered by the local municipality or if not, then
b.) a private recycling service that collects from the place of residence.

I'm aware that there are drop-off points, but I was just wondering why this happens in some areas (like SWest) and not in others?
 
I guess it's just more feasible in certain areas that have single houses as opposed to lots of apartments. Stellenbosch has many apartment complexes which means it would probably have too many bags to make it feasible.

There's also the issue of vagrancy to consider. With the amount of vagrants in a town like Stellenbosch, the town would probably be covered in litter from all of them tearing open the bags to get to the recyclables inside. It's bad enough the way they tear open black bags on trash day and scatter the content all about.
 
Pinelands has it, not to sure about Rondebosch. A problem we have is the vagrants will break open the bags dig through them and then either leave litter lying around blowing into the street or empty the bags in the bins when they are done making the recycling thing pointless
 
In Garsfontein Pretoria the recycling had been stopped as the illegal recyclers stripped the bags of all good material and left only real junk which made it uneconomical for the official recycling company.

I leave the recycling separate and the vagrants actually take it away... so they kind of offer this service for free.

There is a guy in Obs that is doing it... will have a look.

He was looking at expanding his range.
 
^^^Thanks. That helps :). Interested to see whether they're willing to provide the service to an entire apartment and what the cost will be. And whether it can be pushed through body corporate.

I think they are.

They wanted to offer this in Mowbray at a slightly higher rate per month.
