Soweto man killed for housebreaking

A mob killed a Soweto man accused of housebreaking on Thursday morning, police said.

"The man was allegedly caught by the owner of the house while breaking into the house and he called community members," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

The man was severely beaten and died on the way to hospital, he said.

The homeowner was arrested when he went to the police to open a case of housebreaking, and would appear soon in the Protea Magistrate's Court.

For house breaking sure but one thing leads to the next and I'm sick and tired of hearing about women and children being murdered and/or raped for fun in the name of aggravated robbery.
Mob justice is not the way to go but I can understand people's frustration with regards to our justice system.

I thinks it is insane! Was it just the owners word that the guy broke in?

So we can just say that someone broke into our house as an alternative to paying a hitman to take someone out.

Maybe the home-owner and the "criminal" just had an argument?

it does sound a bit harsh that a mob killed a guy for house breaking.
but... as a person who's been victim to crime too many times, who's had my house broken into and my property that i worked my ass off to accumulate simply taken away, who's had my family's safety and security pissed on, and having to deal with the emotional **** that goes with it, while the robbers just laugh on their side, knowing the police and justice system couldn't help us.... i can't say that i have any sympathies for the robber...
if criminals get fkd up enough times, perhaps people will learn that breaking in and stealing is a BAD thing, don't fn do it!

going to report a case to the police and having to deal with a cop who should do well to go do grade 1 again doesnt help either
perhaps people are starting to have enough of criminals having their way.

Last Saturday-morning in our neighbourhood, some of our community members spotted three guys in one of our neighbours' yard busy stealing laundry and tools.

When the scum came to the realization they were being monitored they started jumping over walls to try and get away. Due to the advances in technology the people in the street behind were already called to be on the lookout.

Two of them got away.

The police came and didn't even bother asking for any witnesses because there's an unwritten code of silence associated with mob justice. They just picked up the stolen things and bagged it after they called the ambulance, who in turn just picked the convulsing body up and took him away.

His funeral is tomorrow...

When they arrived there the mob already dispersed. I got there at around 8 in the morning and wondered why the police were standing there.

I chatted with them for about 5 minutes while we were waiting for the ambulance and they told me how it works, the mob first beat them up, then they go home and call the police. So by the time the police get there its mostly the curious neighbours standing around.

So according to them even if they investigate these cases 99% of the time its a waste of time as nobody in the community will talk. The community sees the assault/murder as being a positive thing, sort of to serve as a warning to others.

Oh, and the reason I know he's dead is our area is very close to Delft and since its a newish area there's no buses. So our people have to take bus in Delft. One of our neighbours overheard people talking about the guy they picked up in our area having died on Tuesday and being buried tomorrow.
