Hi guys anyone on MyBB that did the Soweto Marathon?

I just completed my first 21km and I did it at 2:15. Happy with my result as it is my first one and I did not really train for it. My next aim for 21km is to run sub 2 hours.

Congrats ActivateD!

When reading beginning of your post I thought your time was in minutes and seconds and wondered what kind of super human energy you're harnessing. In the last sentence then realised it was hours. :D

Thank you and haha yes its 2 hours 15 minutes. Talking about super human energy I need to work on my pacing first 10km I did it at 7 minutes per km and the last 11km 5 minutes per km.

Quite a difference in km per minute from start till end but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it through practice and experience. All matters considering, you did well for your first time.

Do you drink any nutrients on your way?

Wait do you did the steep parts faster, wtf. I did it in 1:57.

Nope, it's my second but I barely trained. Always scared of losing muscle or losing out on time that could be spent on building muscle. But I'm immensely impressed by your effort. Soweto Half isn't the easiest.

But the running bug hit me hard again after this mornings atmosphere. Gonna enter at least 3 more half marathons this year.

Wow, good times there guys. Keep it up, I'm always in awe of athletes.

Way to go, modern10. Please let us know how you do in the other three. Best of luck. Hope you ace them.

I don't know how marathon runners do it considering it must take a tremendous amount of stamina and endurance.

I can tell you how to w it happens. You run your first 5km. Do a few more. It gets boring. Attempt a 10km. Survive it. Do a few more. Than comes 21km. And you keep on training more and more. Than the insanity and endorphin addiction kicks in and you want more. So you become a running addict and train for a marathon. 50-60km a week.

You run your first marathon and meet the wall. Realize that exercise is only one aspect. Start Doing the nutrition thing

At the end, you end up like this

Funny video clip.

Are you talking from a place of experience? Many marathon runners interviewed talk about the freedom of running.

No nutrients and I hardly drank even while running I had 3 slips of those water plastic things the whole 21km.

Yeah I think the first 10km I was just going with the flow and then the last 11km I took it seriously. Those hills were not bad at all I actually enjoyed them as they allowed me to race past all the people that ran passed me the first 10km haha. 1:57 is above average right? and that is a good time.

I did the Marathon the last two years, but was too late to enter this year.
Did have a bit of FOMO watching it on TV but at the same time it is also nice to sleep in on weekends and not train :p

Congrats on that time! I'm also yet to crack the sub 2hr for the half. I did my first full a month or two ago (the Cape Town Marathon) which was an awesome experience. So much so that the very next day, I entered the Two Oceans Ultra. Can't wait for that but I better get my ass in gear. Doing the Vital Winelands half this coming Saturday.
