Spam SMSs on Vodacom

I just got a new Vodacom Prepaid simcard, and it's been in my phone for about ten minutes and I already got a spam SMS!

Where do these people get the numbers? or do they just try random numbers until they get one that works?

lol, but how do they get the numbers?

Luckily i'm only using it to try out 3G on my new phone, since MTN doesn't have 3G coverage in plett , so I won't be using it for long. But i've NEVER received any spam on my MTN number before, and I've had it for nearly 4 years now.
