Hi All

I do hope i am in the correct section of the forum to post this. I hve a domain registered and have an educational mailing list with some 800 subscribers increasing daily, every now and than Spamhaus blocks my IP. Why is this ? I hve followed the instructions from Spamhaus, hve antivirus software, spybot etc, regularly check my pc for spyware etc. This really gets frustrating when my IP gets blocked. My hosting providers can't seem to assist me as well. Can anyone kindly plz advise.thx

Howzit. Had this issue at work a few months ago. We have a static IP which then necessitates you having your own SMTP server, we were told that you couldn't use your ISP's SMTP server with a static IP. What then happened was that some users got some Hallmark greeting card email which they opened and this seemed to install a virus which set up its own SMTP server on the infected PCs and just started sending spam. After many hours trying to get rid of the virus I stumbled on a forum which suggested blocking the outgoing SMTP port 25 on the firewall for all IPs on the network, except for the real SMTP server's IP. We did this and we haven't had any issues since then. I don't know if this is exactly the same problem as what's causing your troubles but I thought it might help. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is.

Hi Shane, please confirm whether you're sending from a static or dynamic IP address.
Could you post one of the errors you have received from spamhaus?

Server-admins.net - we send from a static IP

arj - I'm not 100% sure, we've got an outside company who sorts our servers out. I know that we use a linux distro called SME Server which acts as our firewall and the chap was able to selectively block outgoing port 25 on the firewall for all IPs except the real SMTP server. So I'd imagine you'd need to set up a firewall server if you don't already have one and then see if you're able to selectively block outgoing port 25. If you already have a firewall server, or if your router has some kind of firewall on it you need to see if you're able to block the port there. I found something on google when I was trying to fix this prob, might have bookmarked it at work, I'll try remember to check tomorrow and if it's there I'll post the link.
