Durban - The SPCA has refuted claims that a man had raped a cat in Verulam last week. This after the cat was examined following the alleged incident.

SPCA Durban & Coast general manager, Caroline Smith, said the cat was examined on Monday by their chief vet.

"There is no evidence to support the allegation that the cat was raped. The owner keeps changing her story so it seems that her accusations are baseless," Smith said.

On Friday, Reaction Unit SA director, Prem Balram said they received a call from a female who informed the controller on duty that her neighbour was having sex with her pet cat.

"The woman said she had walked to his residence to investigate the screams of her pet when she found the naked man holding the cat by rear legs and penetrating the animal," he said.

Balram said when officers entered the home and found the man dressing and his pants was covered in cat hair.

Balram said that the man had been accused of bestiality before with other animals in the area but no cases were opened due to the man's girlfriend pleading with the community to forgive him.

KZN police said no case had been reported to them.

when she found the naked man holding the cat by rear legs and penetrating the animal," he said.

If he did that, his legs and balls and everything would have been scratched to hell and gone. So if it isn't, he did not do what she claims he did.

is the guy a dwarf or is the cat a maine coon.

someone explain the logistics

If its true they should be looking for a severly injured cat.
Sad part is that this is not the first time( acording to the community)so maybe he tried and did not come right this this time but at least she tried to do something?

well, those brothers tried to rape a crocodile to lift a family curse..

maybe this guy was told something ..lol

That poor cat and guy. The owner should actually be fined/arrested for not giving the cat the treatment it needed. Seems like animal abuse to me.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: ALLEGED CAT RAPE IN VERULAM 26th OCTOBER 2018

The Durban & Coast SPCA would like to provide clarity on the extent of our involvement in this case.
RUSA (Reaction Unit South Africa) attended the scene of an alleged cat rape in Verulam on Friday 26th October 2018. The cat owner had accused an elderly male neighbour of raping her pet cat.

The scene was publicised by RUSA with photographs and a video on their Facebook page on the same day.
No investigation took place at the scene for evidence; the cat was not removed for examination nor was the SPCA called to the scene.

RUSA took the accused to Verulam SAPS.
Bestiality cases are investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) of SAPS, and their protocols determine that they should request the assistance of SPCA.

Our Inspector was only able to obtain the cat owner’s details from SAPS yesterday, Monday 29th October 2018. SAPS advised that on Friday 26th October they declined to take the case further as the cat owner’s version was unreliable and she had changed her story saying that she was not sure what she had seen. The cat owner is the only alleged witness.

Our Inspector immediately contacted the owner yesterday to arrange collection of the cat for examination by our Chief Veterinarian. The cat was roaming and our Inspector had to leave a cat trap. A short while later he revisited the site and the cat had been confined for collection. The owner had decided to surrender the cat to our SPCA as she no longer wanted her. Our Inspector interviewed the owner and she stated that on Friday she had seen the cat in the man’s room and that he had placed the cat on his lap.

The cat, a white female, was admitted to our SPCA animal hospital and sedated for examination. Our Chief Veterinarian carried out a thorough examination and could find absolutely no evidence to support the owner’s allegations that the she had been raped. No signs of recent trauma could be found.

The cat was in poor condition and had been denied much-needed veterinary treatment. She had severe crusting on both ears from sun-induced invasive skin cancer which is incurable. She was underweight and tick infested. Sadly, the girl had to be humanely euthanased in order to prevent prolonged suffering.

Had any medical evidence been found to support the owner’s rape allegation, our SPCA would have taken a strong stance with SAPS and ensured that a case of bestiality be opened.

It is unfortunate that RUSA sensationally publicised a case without first investigating the veracity of the allegations. This has understandably caused distress and outrage amongst community members and animal lovers. We suggest that members of the public take this up directly with RUSA.

Please note that the SPCA has not issued any prior press releases regarding this matter, apart from verifying on Facebook yesterday that no evidence of rape had been found. We felt that it was a matter of urgency to quell public concern, and advise that in our Veterinarian’s professional opinion, she had thankfully not endured rape. We did however require more time to compile an official statement and hope that this has provided the clarity required.

Durban - Hours after the SPCA refuted claims that a cat was raped in Verulam, their chief vet found out that the cat, in fact, had a rare skin cancer and had to be euthanised.

Tanya Fleischer, the marketing manager of Durban and Coast SPCA, said the white female cat was brought into the SPCA Hospital on Monday, two days after news of the alleged rape.

"Our chief veterinarian carried out a thorough examination and could find absolutely no evidence to support the owner’s allegations that she had been raped. No signs of recent trauma could be found."

However, the SPCA found the cat to be a "poor condition" and looked like she was much-needed veterinary treatment and had to be subsequently put down.

"She had severe crusting on both ears from sun-induced invasive skin cancer which is incurable. She was underweight and tick infested. Sadly, the girl had to be humanely euthanased in order to prevent prolonged suffering."

Time for RUSA to explain their roll in this mess.

The all powerful cowboys of Verulam. They are both celebrated and feared. No doubt they do good where SAPS are failures, but they have a shoot/hit/take photos/publicize now and ask questions later stance on every case.
