Speaker wire short (home theater)

Quick question on speaker wires, I once bought an amp and at the last minute realised that the speaker wires were missing, got an old lan cable with twisted pairs and used it to connect the speakers and no sound. What could have been the problem, the wires too thin?
 
Just get a longer wire, how hard is that?
 
Why not leave your post up in case other people one day have the same issue, also so that some Mybb members can have heart attacks and point them here when they didn't find this thread and started a new one.

Oh no I have no idea, I was just trying to be funny by mixing short as in an electrical short and length, what I know about sound and wiring is dangerous on the best of days

That would occur due to increased resistance and signal loss as a result of incorrect type of cables or just really schitty ones.

Chances are you put it in the wrong hole.

Go to you local hardware shop and ask for twinflex, choose one with a copper core of at least 1mm in diameter, no need to go much thicker. Replace the wiring for all your speakers if you like, also do keep them the same length regardless of where the speakers actually go, you can roll it up neatly for those that are closer to the amp.
 
@redviking Since I'm only using 2 speakers and not the total 5, I took the sound bar wire and cut it then inserted into the input on the speaker I'm using, then tape it and It works. I guess you have to be willing to cut one of the speaker wires, luckily I didn't need them all.

Got it kept away, I doubt I'd use it. If I set it too cinema mode (all speakers) I don't find it as loud or nicer than on stereo mode (this one only works with the two front speakers and sub) so I'm using it this way.

Also it's an old system but still works great
