After only many many years of service my desktop speakers have given up on life.
RIP my dusty little friends.

Now that that's settled, any good recommendations for new ones?

What's the budget and what level of quality are you looking for?

I have Pebble 2s and they're fine for what they are, but they're no studio monitors. They also don't have studio monitor pricing though.

Probably not too much, let's say 1.5k?

Quality wise a bit of bass, anything is better than having to listen to music over my crappy Samsung monitor's speakers :)

At the moment a tv sound bar seems the way to go, they look like they have a lot more output per rand.
I have a JVC 2.0 soundbar (TH-N322B) under my Samsung 24" PC monitor - it has FM radio, Bluetooth, 3.5mm AUX jack, optical in and HDMI as well as a remote - I got it on special at Checkers Hyper a few months ago for R 699 (normal price was R 999).

Not the best but top notch for the price.

If you want a studio-quality wireless soundbar then get this. I have this along with the powered sub - got it for R29k as a bundle from Wootware when it was on sale. It's 2 years old now and I plan on keeping 'em for another decade.

600W output is very good at that price!

Also seems quite good.

RIght after this I found a PnP Supermarket leaflet with what looked to be Hal's JVC, its on sale there for R500.

Unfortunately before I could double check I lost power, so I went to my local big PnP to have a look at it. Its stats looked a little weird like having a rechargeable PSU and no optical. Also the PnP I went to is a Hypermarket so the special didn't apply.

They did have its slightly more expensive big brother with optical etc., so I picked up that one, its priced R799 there.

In the end it turned out that was the same TH-N322B one that Hal got at Checkers :)

My speakers went recently replaced them with Edifier R1280dbs. Very happy with them but they are above the budget specified.

Yup - the JVC TH-N324B Soundbar is a smaller 'portable' model, designed for use with a laptop - it only has USB-C (and an internal battery) for power, with Bluetooth or AUX connectivity and a lower output of 20W RMS, and flashing disco lights.

Best part of powering up the JVC TH-N322B is the sultry voice that says "Welcome to JVC Multimedia - AUX IN mode" (although it sounds more like ORCS IN mode) and says 'Power Off' when you use the remote to turn it off... ;)

Also, if you have a power failure, it defaults back to BT (Bluetooth mode) & the volume resets to '16' - I normally set it back to AUX IN & turn the volume back to 10 before turn on my PC... ;)
