Bargain Generators

It seems to me the greedy b@stards that imported too many generators, during the Eskom deliberate blackouts, are now suffering to sell their stock. So prices are falling.

Makro sells a 2KW generator for R1745.00. Was R3000.00 they claim. Brand Firman
Builders sells a 5KW generator for R3000.00 Ellies branded. Was R6500.00 they claim.

Ellies were paying to much for storage and contracted Builders to sell it for them.

Apart from the colour it looks identical to the 5.5kva one builders had on sale a few months ago. Awesome generator even if it is really noisy and heavy on the petrol.

Yeah - I use it regularly and it will pretty much run my entire house barring the oven (4000w ).

Dont know anything about the Firman.

Sorry about the many questions. Just interested to find the best use inbetween the field work exercises. Makes it more worthwhile specially when the power fails.

you'll get lots of people saying, turn off your mains, and plug it into your wall plug, but i wouldnt do that. We got an electrician in, he installed a little box next to our switch board, and now we can just turn on the generator, switch from mains to generator, and voila, back online. And if the power comes on again, a little red light will burn telling us eskom is back on. have the tv unit run on a ups, with a volt regulator. Makes life so much better

Yeah, the PS3 is going to do the controlling via Linux and a USB data interface.

Most of these generators are all generics with different stickers and paint jobs. I bought a Wikkies Power from Wikkies Pompe and the salesman told me that they had to sell a certain quantity before they could use their own brand name.
These generators all use a Chinese clone of a Honda engine and I compared mine to many others and they all look the same.
Unfortunately I bought mine too early when R4500 for an electric start was still a bargain.

I think it's a Rolux but I'll have to check.

That's actually what I did. I move my generator around a fair bit to avoid annoying the same neighbour each time. TBH I also figured it was going to cost too much for such infrequent use. When the power comes back on my garage light comes on so I know.
