Special router for fibre?

Looking at buying an additional router which may or may not be used with fibre depending on future needs and was wondering if a special router is needed for fibre? I have been Googling for a clear answer but haven't found anything conclusive.

You need something with an Ethernet WAN port, like any standard non-adsl router.

You do get routers with both DSL and Ethernet WAN ports.

unlikely. Most fibre deployments use a fibre-to-ethernet gateway these days. The sfp is normally in this gateway, and the gateway installed by the fibre contractor. so your router will get a CATx ethernet feed.

This is for FTTH of course, business deployments would be different, but in a business deployment the ISP should provide the router.

ok. Your method of deployment is your prerogative. Mikrotik is a nice CPE, relatively cheap too.
