Just a rant - but why offer things on a special when they're not even in stock?

It's not a case of them being sold out either, I've phoned a few stores for the Xperia tablet they say they don't order even them unless someone wants ... and that's only next year (special ends first week next year).

Well if you order then you should still get it at the advertised price. I don't see anything wrong with a business not wanting to hold stock of unpopular items but still willing to order at advertised discount prices.

I agree.

name and shame

Vodashop Cresta, Clearwater, Northgate, Westagate, Randburg, Craighall ... and 2 or 3 others didn't answer.

I did - however - find it this afternoon at Vodaworld

As long as they are then willing to order. I have seen this happen where the store simply says they don't know if or when they will receive any stock and they aren't capable or ordering themselves (dionwired Bedfordview).

Vodacom has a particularly bad reputation in this respect. Just one example: many people have tried in vain to buy their R99 modem+12x100MB data internet starter specials widely advertised in their national magazines, with few outlets ever having stock. It looks suspiciously like a ploy to get you into their shops. Some stores (like mine) will certainly offer to order one, and that's the last you ever hear of it. Naming and shaming is certainly appropriate.
