Speculation: Telkom Dialup and ISDN uncapped

With the adsl uncapped war on, has anyone heard what will happen to dialup or ISDN in future? Why not just make infinitcall an always on connection?
 
sorry anubis but I doubt Telkom would look at what is effectively a dead technology
 
I helped come up the idea of free dialup in the UK... way-back-when at the dawn of time.
That was simply based on the phone call having a cost and then a percentage was passed on to the provider... if that same model happens here then it's completley possible. I personally haven' t looked in to it in SA.
 
Telkom should provide the BRI D channel as an always on internet connection, I mean at 9600 bps, it's not like we'll download the whole internet in a month. Then again, they should have offered it when ISDN was still used for internet access.
 
Free dialup would at least get poorer south africans online. The vast majority of the poor who are fortunate to have a pc and telephone use dialup. Many small businesses use ISDN still (for paypoints, faxing and email). A ultra cheap uncapped isdn or free dialup would serve the masses. I mean, even if you tried to download 24/7 wiyh dialup you probably could only do a few GB in a month or even year. But to dialup at local call costs those GB's would cost R0000's so why not just make it free for the poor. Kids for school work, pensioners for online banking etc. Not everone cares for youtube and torrents. Most people in SA haven't even heard of things like that or would even need it.
