URL Download speeds have been very slow this morning varying between 1-3k.
Browsing seems ok, but I got an error when trying to access telkoms speed test: Error: Page not found. (WWC-44234) :/
I’m not to sure what to make with all this.
I'm using flashget to download, and did quite a bit of downloading last night as well...I guess I’m wondering whether its possible I got throttled this morning by WBS because of my excessive downloading yesterday...although I still have more than a Gig on my account left.

what’s your thoughts on this?

Great it says i have dial up iburst !! ha ha .What a load of crap this service is

I did the test again, and they responded that it would be quicker if I would post them half a Meg, and they will post me the resaults!!!
At least I don't have to deal with Telkom.

It's an international test 19 hops away, you are testing the bandwidth to the test server, not your connection speed :)
BTW, the error that you get is from telkom, not iBurst

Something very strange is going on.

I just downloaded DirectX 9c from the microsoft site using netscape 8.0 download manager at 250KB/sec. That's right KileBytes, not Kilobits.

Over 34 Megabytes in a matter of minutes.

Wish I could have this kind of speed all the time. :D

My speeds has been terrible for the past 2-3 days. Downloads havent gone over 15kb/s! and no - i'm not capped.

Anyone experiencing similiar problems? My speeds have always been top notch! Dunno whats happened with em now?!

international speeds have been rubbish for 5 days.

tonight i was downloading at about 100KB/s single threaded and i thought everything was fixed, then all of a sudden the last two downloads came down at about 10KB/s... so either wbs are playing or uunet or playing around... so who knows... but a problem there is!!!

I have had crap with Iburst as well .

But I know their antics, alot of people are leavung direct downloads running all month once they pass their cap, and why not, but Iburst has decided to implement something which throttles your downloads after a few minutes to 0k.

Well done ! You are a great service provider!

I am so sick of sa companies not wanting to live up what we are paying for!!!!!

But in all honesty, there is not 1 decent ISP in South Africa, not 1! Sad but true so I give up!

Well I got capped last night - just as I decided to start downloading AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe which is 19MB, and should have been cached by WBS' Poxy Server...anyways it was running at between 1kB/s and 4kB/s for most of the time - sometimes peaking at 7kB/s...it took one hell of a long time to come down and my capped speed was far from constant - I can only imagine that Olivedale-BS was highly contended at the time...

The other annoying thing is that I have to download absolutely everything that isn't email & html pages using a download manager - otherwise my downloads still stall & die for no apparent reason & I would have to waste precious uncapped bandwidth on downloading the same bytes all over again - very irritating when a 0.5MB or smaller file requires fidling with a download manager...

nope their international line is severely degraded. i am not capped and have had many downloads lately just dying. speeds varying from 120 - 10KB.

i think they are reaching a saturation point because i have noticed a slow degradation of international quality.

one speed test i always do used to come in at 50KB, then at 30KB, then at 20KB and now I am lucky if I get 18-20KB. I think they are relying on their cache waaay to much .

well lets see hell desk told me they are experiening problems that are being investigated. yeah right!

oh i should add that uunet have sorted their sht out according to their notice board which seems to be alot more effecient then iburst's board..

It has nothing to do with their international line, they are doing this becasue of the dogs they are!

If it was the international line, I wouldnt get normal speeds when I connect for 10 seconds and then it drops to sub dial up speed. They are doing this themselves.

This is typical!

international is cruddy for me as well. anyone phoned into "lie desk" today for a reason? or is it out MTU`s again?;)

Dont bother with international multimedia sites. I hate to be doing this _again_, but if you are thinking of getting Iburst. Dont. Not until they have sorted out their network issues, and moved to a proper provider *kof* IS *kof*

I really hope the MWEB rumour is true, and they buy Iburst out. We might get this thing I have heard of called 'customer support' Its a pity such a great techonology is been managed like this... *sigh*

its not MTU or anything liek that, its the fact that some idiot has decided to play with the bandwith manager yet again, there is plenty bandwith to and from local and international to go around but of course not when there is a piece of crap bandwith manager controlling it all, and just as things get stable with it someone decides to mess with it yet again, and the result is sh!tty access for uncapped users because they want to save on 1 or 2KB/s for capped users downloads.

I would actually like to see a major ISP buy iBurst from WBS, GTech/WBS can continue with the lottery thing & not having to deal with customers - which WBS totally suck at...

There is essentially nothing wrong with iBurst as a technology, it is WBS and the way they are throttling bandwidth & overselling in certain areas without sufficient base-stations - that is the problem...although we already know that iBurst is going to be totally outdated in a year or two...hopefully it will be stable by then...

er might be lame
