Speed limit comparison

While policymakers blame high speed limits for contributing to South Africa's high level of road fatalities, the country's speed limits aren't exactly out of sync with the rest of the world.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) proposed reducing the country's speed limits by 10km/h across the board in 2022, which it said would help reduce road fatalities.

LOL, no. The lack of LAW ENFORCEMENT - and I don't mean manning speed traps and erecting speed-measurement cameras everywhere - and bought-/unlicenced drivers are the main cause of road deaths.

Wasn't there an article some time ago that said this was not true?

Anyway, just another form of passive income for the traffic department/government under the guise of road safety.

Only one country, New Zealand, has national speed limits on main roads higher than South Africa’s 100km/h limit.
This is incorrect, New Zealand also has a 100km/h limit on main roads (and most motorways). There are specific stretches of motorways that are called expressways and some of these allow speed limits up to 110km/h.

Speed limits in Saudi in parts of the desert are at 160km/h. Same in the UAE. On some desert highways the limit is 140-160km/h.

Got to laugh, we have the commander in thief crying about the US and declaring us a sovereign state who can't be told what to do, while simultaneously trying to justify lower speeds because the UN says we have to. Any change in the speed limits would be based solely on the money they can make issuing fines, no other reason, definitely not safety or concern for the population.

The smaller countries can afford to have lower speed limits. The area of Singapore is only about 10% of that of the City of Tshwane. Even at their quoted speed limit of 50 km/h you will get to your destination relatively quickly.

Oh man. For reason I thought this was gonna be another one of those - if a truck is driving 120km/h and a car is driving 120km/h, who is going faster threads.

The fastest vehicle would be determined by who is carrying a 10kg of lead or a 10kg of feathers.

How did you find that? I went searching a few months ago, and I thought it had been deleted.
