Speed problems

Nothing, iBurst is great technology and works well for me. When you refer to WBS as a company and their staff, then I agree with you

Zero tech support
treats subscribers like mushrooms
etc..

I wonder how you could be objective having worked for Telkom.

yes I know iBurst is a great technology, but big deal, from my point of view it is not available in SA as such.

I am objective because I have worked with everything, including GSM and in other related industries.

What is not available in SA is as follows:

1) lots of bandwidth because of Telkom being a lot like our friend Bob up north.
2) Decent customer support, because SA public in general are placid about being ripped off and it's only the last few years that have seen people rise up against being raped up the ass
3) Competent people with skills to make broadband in SA work. Unfortunately companies like WBS choose not to hire highly skilled people from this forum so what do you expect.

I read your post and like so many you seem to be disillutioned. Sa users are not stupid. They just dont know the facts always.

Boy you just dont get it do you. It definately is available to some people in SA.

You personally had a poor experience. You refused help when iburst offered (antenna) since you had decided that you knew more about their product than they did.

Its quite funny how craigsa complained of the same issues you did, with a full signal, but accepted to try the solution offered by ib (antenna) and now he seems a little happier with the product.

Listen good luck with adsl, just remember everytime you pay your line rental that you are giving them money for something that your parents and your tax moneys have already paid for many times over.

that's a fact!!!

Roodepoort tower sucks

Direct line of sight. Only appr 1 km away and i still get k@k speeds.

Evern got an external antenna going and still nothing. Speed yoyo's and signal strength keeps on going up and down.

why oh why i ask myself?

ha ha ha

and when you pay iBurst R200 per GB you paying for the fat ass managers to buy 1M+ R cars and multimillion R houses :-)

what's the difference ???

So craigsa, did you have exact same problems like me before you got an antenna, as daveogg claims???

You had fast HTTP, no problems whatsoever, but when you start using any other protocol like ICQ, streaming, P2P etc it just didn't work properly if at all? Can you confirm please! Besides that you were getting a "windows" of proper connection every now and then, when everything was working 100% for few hours? Is that right craigsa?

swordfish1 I can't believe now that you are disputing what people say here, and disputing what craig reported. Craig is getting decent speeds now, he even wanted to demo it to me. Previously he was complaining about everything

I am (apparently) on the same tower as you, and I am 7km away and I am getting decent connectivity. There was a problem last week when the power went out affecting large parts of Roodepoort and Florida, and yes, that morning signal was yo-yo.

PM me/post here so I can help you sort this problem out!

coz they fags, bcoz of transparent proxy, rapidshare sees us all as 1 ip, so u cant dl from it

So this is the root of all problems!!!

Antennae, bullsh*t!!!

They can stick their antenaes up their fat asses!!!!

I am also getting crap speeds. My line speeds are about 35kbps and I have been online for about on hour with downloads speeds of 6kBps and I am not even capped. I am paying for a connection that is suposed to give me speeds that is ten times better than this, but not getting it. Why ? Someone playing around with settings and dont know how to do it correctly ??????

This explains a LOT of things!!!

And how do you fix the problem! You can't! Screw them! WBS sucks big time! Now I am twice as motivated as before to make them pay for the bullsh*t they offer!!!

Hey buddy - well before the external aerial i was getting full 100% signal 100% of the time but genereally speeds and downloading both p2p and http were very bad.

My local pings were about 200- 2000 depending on the day.

My speeds now are 80% better generally and my ping are about 60- 80 ms locally.

I really blv it made a huge difference to me.
But that is me and not everyone else.

Sword - dont get me wrong i am not 100% happy with iburst because i do blv that generally we are getting screwed big time. However i have no other option as DSL is k@k in my area - i am too far awya from the exchange and there is huge contention in my area.

I also use it in 2 locations so for me iburst is good (not great) but good.
There is no other product here that i know of that would do the same trick for the same price.

But i have had my fair share of problems.

Criag buddy
technically, what you did to improve your iBurst experience makes the most sense, so I actually tell others to try what you did and read your posts when having problems.

I have a feeling here that some people are in *gatvol* status and are now stubbornly refusing help/trying things because they've given up

There's me, Slim, Craig, wls, and quite a few others for whom iBurst is good and we're all on different towers. It doesn't make sense that only some people have problems and others not.

yeah i agree. I really was not happy until i got the aerial. It does make a huge difference. I just downloaded winamp (www.winamp.com) and got speeds of approx. 90kbs which is great for me. This is much better than the 20-30 i used to get. That and the fact that i sit on the forums and see what works for others and try that too.

No good complaining - we have to try and fix the problems.
Iburst dont help on the forums so when help is offered from people (Kei and others) who know what they are talking about then take it. its free advice

IMO the flames result from a failure to listen to each other...

[/post]As much as I admire Kei for offering to help fellow iBurst customers and forumites, we should recognise that there is a mixture of problems affecting speed & performance of iBurst for some of us.

We all know that iBurst tends to be dodgy at times, we also know that doing all you can to get the best possible signal quality [lowest FER%] and finding that illusive "sweet-spot" is essential, but it does not change the fact that there will be times when there is nothing that a customer can do to solve problems on WBS' iBurst network, and specifically contention at the base-station(s) their iBurst modem uses.

Rather than bashing each other about the head, discuss rationally, and draw logical conclusions that are not based on the assumptions that WBS' iBurst is always good or always bad.
