Speed problems

My goal is to make a list of problems that cause poor speeds so that at the end of the day if you've checked everything in that list, and you have speed problems, you can be sure it's a WBS problem. I also believe experience is a good thing.

look i think generally this forum is great becasue if we are all having k@k then its iburst however they would normally tell us everything is sweet so at least we have the truth here most of the time.
but the more all of us learn the better it will be for us in the end

So this is the root of all problems!!!
how would a transparent proxy be responsible for your icq? and you said your problems were cuz of packet shaping..... anyways if your problems started in early april then this cannot be it because the tranparent proxy wasn't around then

Yes, especially if we take WBS to task about poor service and poor performance. We can really put them on the spot.

Kei, so as you can see craigsa had very different problems! Speed related! I never ever complained about speed, even when capped, I am getting flat 8KB/s downloading from HTTP for hours! I never said anything about speed, unreliable link etc.! So my problem is that protocols don't work, not that they are slow, I don't see how antennae will solve the problem, besides that I have seen it working fine very fe times for many hours at one, not for 5 minutes, so I know that it can work!

Besides that, Key, I just had a chat with friend of mine who complained of having problems with ICQ and streaming as well! So obviously I am not the only one! Unfortunatelly this friend of mine can't get ADSL in his area so he has no choice! I feel sorry for him!

protocols don't work

I am interested as to why those protocols work on mine, not on yours...! That is why I am so interested in all of this. I have no protocol problems whatsoever.

Kei, I don't have iBurst anymore nor a modem, so I can't do much about it, but if you are so curious, why not come one day to my place, connect your modem and I bet that you going to get the same crap that I was getting! You can see for example how eMule finds sources as usual, and in a few minutes all sources disapper ... due to connection failures or something like that! You can see text streaming applet that disconnect as they wish (couple of times every hour), you can see icq disconnecting very often as well, and if it is in a mood it can do the nice trick of disconnecting after every single message, if it just sits there and you do nothing to it, it seems to work, but if you send a message, on the second one it will disconnect! How nice! You connect via your old dial-up modem and all problems disappear ...

First of all I don't use emule, I use bittorrent for p2p.. Secondly I do have ICQ and I don't have any of the problems you mentioned. But for the sake of proving that there is nothing wrong on my side, I am going to set up emule tomorrow and test it

OK but it is pretty much common knowledge that emule is shaped probably the worst out of all p2p protocols.

Yes I am aware of that, which would explain why I had to experiment with various bittorrent clients

ok Kei, I would like to know what the results are ...

For me, it does NOT work at all! I am not complaining that it is slow or anything, it just doesn't work! And I guess if they use proxy and they have the entire iBurst network behind a proxy, this will explain why some stuff don't work! Because for the external world all of us share the same IP ... I know people that complained about problems with VPN as well, which can easily be because of that!

This will also explain why there are much less port scanning and other crap going on, on the iBurst network (only internal), than with dial-up modem or anything else ... which is the only good side effect of their garbage system!

don't think so!

I tested eMule, ICQ and streaming on ADSL two weeks ago and all of them were working like a charm! So I don't really care, as long as my stuff work :-)

I am just speculating that the iBurst network is behind a proxy and the ip addresses are not real! This will explain some of the problems that I am having but I have no proof of it, and even if I had there is nothing I can do about it!

Also, slimothy, do you remember that you told me to use proxy server for eMule. Well I did, it did not work well, but it was "sort of working" compared to the "no proxy" scenario. At least it was able to connect properly. So what is this telling you?

ok blah blah we get it you got adsl, you like adsl and you hate iburst, OK, like we've said countless times, enjoy it, I didn't give you crap service with WBS so dont take it out on me.

As for your other points, you ARE behind a proxy (because all the ISPs use em) but the reason the proxy doesn't hnder emule, ICQ and whatever a 'streaming text applet' is is because they are HTTP proxies which is why i was making the point that it wasn't responsible for your ICQ slash whatever problems, and neither was packet shaping or it wouldn't work for anyone else and I asked if theres packet shaping rules against ICQ etc and got told 'no'.

the emule thing, I don't use emule, never have, never will, I consider it bottom of the barrel and I can find everythign I need elsewhere. The proxy posts I made were all in reference to bittorrent, I think I suggested you should try it with other p2p to see if it could help but that I don't use those weird p2p apps so I wouldn't know, it has since surfaced that a proxy with emule gives a low ID or soemthign and thats a bad thing, whatever that means.

Enjoy your ADSL, but please for the love of g0d quit with the 'OMG YOU GUYS SUCK I GOT ADSL ITS SO MUCH COOLER HAHAHA ROFFEL OMG STFU' posts, its getting a bit old, besides I don't want to have to tell you that I can download at 1mbit then you tell me how I can only get 3GB then me sayign 'then why did i do over 30GB' and then you saying 'but what about pings', its completly irellavent, I don't care which toothpaste you use, shoes you wear, beverages you drink or internet service provider you use.

The adsl forum is thattaway
/me points to the 3 dedicated adsl sections on this forum

Perhaps we could leave all the "get ADSL now" talk for the ADSL Discussion forums, and start using the iBurst Technical Help forum, otherwise we might as well have only one iBurst Discussion forum...let's use the forum we asked RPM for & that RPM gave us, for some constructive self-help...:)

Psychiatric Help not included - terms & conditions may apply...blah blah blah...:D.

thats why i think maybe its better to have one ? But i dunno what eva makes you guys happy :D :D
