Above are the results of my speedtest - I have a Telkom 2Meg line with an Afrihost 2 Meg service... Would you be happy with this performance.. On a saturday morning at 7:30?

Maybe I should go "back to the future" with a dial up?

Such Deep thoughts over a long weekend.. :D - Thanx for the update, I didn't know that there was a cable break...

The sad news is that this was the worst of what have been "abysmal" speed tests (using a number of differing s/w) my average is abt 0.49Mbps and the best ever recorded (2 days after installation 2 mths ago) was 1.71 - never seen that number since.. All that Afrihost do, is refer my query to Telkom, who then send me endless sms's with multiple ref nos. I was genuinely pissed off when I posted this am...

Heh. I had a blazing line, and about a month ago it went completely legless. Mweb and Telkom took turns pointing fingers at each other.
The problem mysteriously disappeared after I suggested to both the Telkom and the Mweb agent that I'm going to switch to Afrihost and see if the problem persists. Welcome to the free market. :)

Maybe a bit of blackmail will work for me... I would eat live kittens to get speeds like yours..

Call it troubleshooting. Change the environment and see what happens. Openweb Pro-rata for the rest of the month will cost you about R150.
I think they realized that my switching providers would identify the culprit. If the issue went away the problem was with Mweb. If it persisted the problem was likely with Telkom. "Lucy. You have some 'splaining to do."
...
Or maybe I got lucky and someone realized they'd accidentally unplugged a switch when they stepped on a power cable. (Seen it happen myself)

Going to try your advice... Mweb the most likely option now.. I've paid Afrihost until the 31st, going to stick with them until then... Give "Lucy" a last chance to make good so to speak before Desi moves out... hehehe :)
