I need a bit of advice.
I have a MWEB uncapped account R199 and Telkom ADSL
Recently I have been having trouble with an intermittent internet connection. Mweb referred me to Telkom because the problem according to them was a line problem. The noise level on the line was under 5db and apparently it should be at least 6db. (I don't understand the technical details of this and I am just repeating what the MWEB technician said) Also I hear static on the Telkom phone.
Tried to phone Telkom a but gave up after waiting more than 30 min while listening to the message that there may be delays due to high call traffic. I then tried their sms fault reporting. Got a message back with a fault no and a promise that the problem will be attended to within 3 days. A day later I got another message that they were working on the problem and shortly afterwards a sms that the problem was resolved. After that I received another message to reply within 24 hours with a NO if I was still experiencing problems or a YES of the problem was solved. That was about 16h00. The connection was ok now with relatively good connection times up until about 22h00 that same evening. During this time the static on the telephone line was however still present. Then the connection started slowing down and I went to bed. The next morning The intermittent connection problem was back. I replied NO to the sms. The intermittent connection was not as bad as before, but still present. The static on the telephone line was a bit louder. Also the internet speed is VERY slow (The average speed on a few of the Broadband speedtests is as follows JHB 436 kbps download, 33 kbps upload, 208 ms ping. International 89 kbps download, 40 kbps upload and 316 ms ping; Cape Town 336 kbps download, 43 kbps upload and 177 ms ping) This on a 2meg line.
Now my questions.
1) Is there a link between the slow speed and the line problem at Telkom? (the intermittent internet connection problem is still there, although it is better than what it was. The static on the telephone line still there)
2) Who must resolve the slow speed problem, Telkom or MWEB?
3) On a 2meg line I expect better results than the above tests. Is this an unrealistic expectation?
Thanks GeorgeSA
