So I did the iburst speed test and it says my download speed is like 650;290,540(did 3 tests)
NEVER IN MY LIFE DID I GET DOWNLOAD SPEEDS OVER 120kbps!

So whats up with that?

I've reached 100kB/s(800kb/s), hit it a few times last week. Now the start of this week has been hit 50kB/s(400kb/s) and below this week, not looking that sharp.

Hi all

Please remember that iBurst speeds are relational to the quality of signal you have.

It's been pig slow the last few days, with no change to signal. Tomorrow is Vodacom day though :)

Going out on a limb here, but I think our initial poster was simply confused about the difference between kbs and kBs. 650kbs is very likely on iburst during the day (not purely a signal factor as claimed - it's a congestion factor for most of us) and 1024kbs would equal 128kBs which is pretty close to the maximum you say you've experienced.

Personally I've only hit 120kBs a few times before, but I got tired of sacrificing goats to keep it up.

Some of you guys might be getting confused. If iBurst is rated at 1024kbs then that is kilobits, not kilobytes. That means your downloads will only come through 8 times slower than that since there 8 bits in a byte. 1024/8=128
That means your theoretical fastest speed with maximum signal strength will be 120kBs. thats it. You can never download at 800kBs or whatever with iBurst. My fastest speeds with max signal with a laptop antennae is 115kBs.

This is the same for 3G, 100Mb/s LAN, etc. All are rated in bits and not bytes. This would therefore explain why a 700MB AVI does NOT take 7 seconds to copy over 100Mb/s LAN.

I see. Thanks for the info. I feel better about my slow speeds now! :D
