When I do a speed test on myBroadband I get a download speed around 3mbps. When I do the same test on the SAIX site I get 9mbps. How do I know which one is correct? Why is there such a big difference? I checked both are testing in JHB

Neither, but probably the SAIX one seeing as your line must be >10Mbps. Speedtest does not show real world performance. ISPs prioritise it, so people who e.g. have ADSL accounts that literally do not work during hours, will still receive full speed Speedtests.

Speedtests should be taken with a pinch of salt, about the only thing useful is their latency indicator which can help identify ADSL line/equipment faults.

I find downloading a test file from thinkbroadband, or some other site that just has various sized zip files for downloading, gives an accurate measurement of download speed.
