hopefully heaven but probably hell
Lets maintain a post that reflects our speed tests. This will give MW users a good idea of how everyone is comparing against the rest in terms of speed.
This could also work to the advantage of Sentech to find problem areas. I think we should also leave out any sarcastic comments to make it a viable thread for everyone.

Hi have just signed up for a 128 kbs. What tools should I be using to test my speeds for the
this posting

there are quite a few if you use the speed test tab right at the top of this page.
Usually its a browser based test. Some use Java Applets so make sure you have Java installed.
You can get that from www.java.com

a simple international speed test is this one: http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp

and a simple local speed test is this one: http://www.telkom.co.za/portal/page?_pageid=1455,70281&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL&paramURL=/pls/portal/docs/page/dsl/speed.shtml

I am convinced that my speed is far below what it should be by comparing my test results with some of the above results. I’ve just signed up for the 128 MW and currently I am not too impressed.
Results are as follows e.g.

Local
• Estimated line speed: 83.1 (kilobits/second)
• Estimated line speed: 10.2 (kiloBytes/second)
International
• Estimated line speed: 10.88 (kilobits/second)
• Estimated line speed: 1.36 (kiloBytes/second)

Area = Bluff, Durban & signal strength = 13%

I would appreciate any advice in how to rectify this, please?

I'm quite happy with my connection you can test it anytime of the day and get the same result. Since I did the software update a couple of months ago i never had any speed or disconnect problems. :)

What site do you guys use for international speedtests?
I tried bandwidthplace but that doesn't even complete, it's so slow.

Nvm, I'm blind.
