Speed traps with the camera sitting in a ditch

How is this legal, if it even is? This POS pig regularly puts his camera down here then he sits across the road. I see he is again sitting there again today, at the same spot where I took this photo a few weeks ago.

Where he is sitting is an 80 zone, cars comes flying down this road at 100+ km/h, when the camera is open for everyone to see they slow down and it becomes easier to exit there. But where it is sitting now nobody sees the camera and still comes flying down at speed, making the exit just as dangerous with then without the speed trap.

What is the purpose of this then other then making easy money?

If u speed u should get a fine, whats the issue?

I got a R400 fine in the post today, it is a reminder to stick to the speed limit. Not seeing the camera does not lessen the effect of the fine.

I reckon that a clearly visible camera usually causes the cars to slow down, improving the safety of this intersection. I use this daily and there had been many accidents. When the yellow box camera is there, that actually does help, because they slow down.

I sometimes stand there in the morning for a long time waiting for a gap as the cars are just coming down this road to fast.

Whereas when the pig is visible, it's a lot safer. But then they probably make less money. I'm sure this easy to understand from my original post? :confused:

It's illegal - if you got a fine from that just throw it in the trash.

Yep, I got your drift, you want a traffic officer to stand there just to make your life easier in the morning :whistle:

The issue is speed limits exist for the safety of road users, not as a means to generate an income. Therefore speeding cameras should be highly visible to help persuade people to stick to the limits, instead of hidden to make money.

A similar effect is achieved sometimes unintentionally.

I have a crest that I approach on the way to work, which is often a mobile speed-camera hotspot. Usually you can see the camera/cops from a distance, but sometimes its just a pedestrian waiting for a taxi. In both scenarios, people slow down to a point that it feels like you are going to stall..

The Traffic Administrator realises there is a problem with that trap - he goes to inspect how the camera was set up and the site layout etc.
He sees that the camera was obscured - and that is against the law. The camera and the officer have to be visible.
So he cancels all the fines issued on that day.
It happens very often.

And in Jo'burg, I assume the rest of SA... If the fine was not handed to you, in person on the road side, it must be sent via registered mail, or it is considered illegal.
