I guess I've got to be the odd one out here. Does anyone know of an ISP that has uncapped options at slower speeds!?! I don't need uncapped at 512k or 1meg. Give me 256k, 128k sheesh even 64k will probably be just fine. I've been getting less than 33k from sentech on my "256k" link most of the time anyway. If possible shaping will be an added bonus. Surely there must be one ISP that offers uncapped for someone who doesn't have a huge need for speed?

Actually I did kinda... On the understanding that no protocols are blocked completely! If some are limited to 16k odd then I'm fine with that. Not a gamer and don't need lightning fast speeds. Just as long as it doesn't get as embarrasingly slow as it's been in the last 6months or so.

I actually would appreciate such a connection too...except without the shaping. As long as it is a true 64kbps connection that is really uncapped, it sounds good to me.

It's quite sad how the rest of the world accepts 2mbit as the minimum (I think) and we'd be happy with 64k. :p

After your cap is finished Iburst throttles your connection to 64kbps on the G1, G3, G6 and G9 packages. You can still do everything, just slower. And you really do get 64kbps.

Without shaping? Well 64kbps is the shaping you get for p2p etc while in the cap (except on G9), so they don't specifically shape anything while you are throttled.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering what iBurst did. If that's the case they're gonna get my business. I have no problem with them throttling at all. Obviously sentech just doesn't have the expertise to do the same tho. :-( Pity as it would have made their lives a lot easier. Oh Well.

Very sad indeed

I think it illustrates how important affordability and pricing are to the vast majority of consumers or potential consumers. IMHO, this is as important (if not more important) as having 1st world broadband speeds. In the digital age, 24/7 connectivity is an essential requirement while fast bandwidth speeds are a luxury.

Speaking for myself, do I really want to be spending the same amount on broadband as I might spend on car insurance or medical aid or levies on my apartment or saving for my retirement!

The result is that many are forced to make use of dial-up if they want "affordable" internet access. However, as everyone here knows, what we pay for POTS dial-up we would be getting true broadband if we were overseas...

Thank you government, ICASA and Telkom for this lovely situation..
