I've got a trailer that I use for the business and i lent it to someone to use while they were moving house .
Now I just received a fine for R1000 for speeding , obviously I have passed it on ,but my question is surely the vehicle towing the trailer was doing the speeding , the trailer on its own cannot speed , so using my trailers registration plate to levy a fine is wrong or is there some legal loophole that enables the traffic department to target me ?

Went through a camera speed trap and the trailer's reg is the only one visible. Not everything is a legal trap.

Similar thing happened to me a while back. Advice I received back then was that they cannot issue a fine to a trailer because it has no motor and isn’t able to speed. As you mention the car was speeding not the trailer.

I didn’t pay and haven’t heard about it since. Im no legal expert so do as you will and maybe consult with someone who is an expert.
