Speeding fine for someone else’s car

So today I received a notification of a traffic fine on paycity. yes the ticket is for one of the family cars - but when I check the speed cam photo it’s not my car - different make, model and colour, the Registration is similar but a character wrong - my reg is JH 55 NH and the car in the pic is JH 55 NM

so how to sort it out?

I already spent half an hour on hold at the RTIA only to be told they couldn’t do anything - do I simply ignore it or will it remain on my profile and I get hit with it if I renew my license ?

I had similar happen to me, received a fine with a photo of "my" vehicle speeding.

Caught speeding in a different province, and vehicle in photo isnt even same, make or colour as mine.
Went to local traffic, explained to them that this isnt my vehicle and someone cloned my plates.
Was asked for proof....i mean my vehicle is standing just outside and they have access to my registration details so what more do you need.

They said they couldn’t do anything about it as the fine is from a different province/office, so just left it at that, never heard anything about it again and have since renewed my vehicle license like clockwork with no fines.

I had the same thing, mailed the traffic dept the fine.
Which clearly shows it is not my vehicle.

Took them about a month, received a mail back saying they have resolved the issue and closed the fine.

Write a letter to the traffic department with the relevant evidence (including a photo of your registration vs the offender's), then drop it off at the department (unless you trust the postal system).

Hopefully that will clear it up.

THough you had no success on the phone with RTIA, it's often the case that it just depends on who answers - whether that person is helpful or not.

So, just do the official letter thing - and keep a copy for yourself - and hopefully it'll be sorted.

We had a cloned licence plate issue years ago and did that. Never heard from the department, but have never had an issue with renewals etc since then.
