Yesterday there were reports by several that speeds were all of a sudden acceptable.

Is this still the case?

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

I believe the only reason things were acceptable is that most people got kicked off the network around the time the storm hit ... I doubt things stayed good.

my speeds were cruising during the storm, probably cos i have a good connection and most users probably lost connection. but now it's getting crappy again, i'm really getting sick of this service, sentech is possibly the worst run company ever!

Not as bad as telkom

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

It flew for a while yesterday but soon slowed down. Today, it sucks, big time. Dial up is quicker.

I have an inferiority complex. But it's only a little one.

Couldn't agree more BuffaloB, took 1 & 3/4 hours to download a 6.2Mbyte file from download.com this morning. I think the definition of this broadband is very wide, very flat on the graph...

I have noticed that in my particular case the last few days, things have been as I expected before signing up. Max about 1 disconnect every 2 days (which I can handle). My AM speeds are about 14KB/sec (to be fair thats not using bittorrent and other threading but not quite on a single thread) and it seems to drop off and become jumpy from about 9AM every morning. Speed seems to be contended during 9AM to approx 11PM which is what I expect and I dont mind it being slower at all during the day. When there are less cars on the highway I must be able to go at least 110kph and at least 60kph when there are cars on the road. Simple really.

But of course, I will probably be getting the token before the weekend..

Would it not be more honest and profitable for Seniletech to rename the 128k package as 64k and 512 as 128k etc.

Then you would be getting near expected speeds per speed tests on this forum.

Finished my 750g Ricoffy, cut a hole in it, stuck it to the modem; 3 lights and 42% BER! [:P]

Actually, Slimetech should be rebranding it as the 28.8, 33.6 and 56 service - that will be more spot-on... Contented of course.

which would be fine if it was in the same ratio ie. 512/56=about 9 therefore R1400/9=R160 a month for contended 56kbps. No way any fool is paying 1 and a hlaf grand for contended 56k. Rather get Hellkom ADShelL

It's apalling to think that the transfer rate to Sentech's DIRECT peer, is this congested. The service still stinks.

Speeds still suck.

Your speed is: 4.71 KBps, or 37.7 Kbps
The test took 113.531 seconds to complete

256k package

I've been SOOO tempted to move to 256K but there is not a chance of me giving Sentech one additional cent at the moment.

fix it already - then I'll give more ;-)

Predictably, I did get the token and have been speed limited all weekend. Guess those tickets are going to stay open forever. Its incredible how if you post saying you got good speed within days the speed sucks.

This is all I use to test speeds these days. If a download from Internet Solutions cannot get better than a 14.4k modem then I don't even bother with the rest. Needless to say, I haven't been bothered with testing anything else for a loooooong time.

Im now in the seriously bandwidth deprived pool. Since there doesnt seem to be outrage on the forums, I guess its my due turn. Im getting peak rates (spikes) of 5KB/sec but averaging 2.5KB/sec WITH threading. The pigeons are barely flying..

Yeah but I believe in the theory that the forum goes dead when people are happy. It seems pretty quiet now and by the looks of things its only the 5% who are slow. I do find it strange then that the group is not always the same people. Then again, its a good thing since all Sentech users can vouch for bad service. On the other hand, it could be a Sentech tactic to "spread" the blame.

So in effect, they are and will be getting away with it while they implement this crude bandwidth management scheme. Half speed 24/7 is always worse (in the customers eyes) than full speed for half days and slow speed the other half.
