speedtest???

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3651 kbps (456.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 432 kbps (54 KB/sec transfer rate)

for local...but international its a disaster....900kps downstream...and local downloads hahah not even going into that

Well the closer to the exchange the better speed and latency. Although the copper quality also plays a big role.

Moral of the story. Closer to the exhange is best!
 
Hey guys, my Neotel speed sucks, this is what's reported in my router, can someone say what's wrong or what I can do to improve it?... if that's possible? I have a 4mbps line...

Download speed: 2508kbps
Upload speed: 431kbps

this is whats reported in my router:

Up Stream: 511kbps
Down Stream: 3068kbps

Noise Margin Up Stream: 12db
Noise Margin Down Stream: 35db
Attenuation Up Stream: 6db
Attenuation Down Stream: 23db

HEC error Near End Indicator: 6
HEC error Far End Indicator: 372
CRC Error Near End Indicator: 1
CRC Error Far End Indicator: 31378
 
how do you guys download faster that 420kb? My line is perfect , im very close to the exchange. Could it be my router? Im using a ****ty mega 100
 
Hmmm, so much for the speed testing sites.

The best way to test is to grab a file from an FTP site and watch your download speeds.

I tried ftp.is.co.za for the local test. (cos I am on the IS backbone)

and for international I tried MIT's public FTP site.

Both FTP sites download at 420 k/sec

So I guess there is nothing wrong with my international link.

I cancelled my Giganews account and signed up with Astraweb.

Now I am getting 385 KB/s on my news server downloads again.
