Hi,

I have a spare wireless SpeedTouch 585(v6) modem which I was thinking of bringing down for my dad to use as he just ordered an ADSL line through Telkom.

Does anyone know if this would work and what setup changes we would need to configure? I am not too much of a techie so please forgive me if I do not catch on straight away.

Here is some info on the product

It LOOKS fine from the product data sheet. You might have to change some settings like VPI/VCI. Where are you "bringing" it down from? If you know someone locally with an adsl connection it might be an idea to test it there first.

Hi Pip,

I am bringing it down from the UK. I have ADSL at home (in the UK) so how would I go about testing it?

The VPI/VCI, do I get these from Telkom or our ISP (MWEB)?

OK, the UK - does it have one of those funny big wide UK phone jacks or an RJ-11 ( I *think* that is the right number ) as would be required here?

Testing it in the UK is probably not a big help!!! ( Sorry - I thought you were here in SA ). MWEB is not the most loved ISP here by the way.

MWeb sucks.

I have noticed. Who gives a good service and what price for 384kb/s ?

I'm pretty sure it is not going to work

The speedtouch 330 will absolutely not work.

However this seems like an more advanced model so u might get lucky
