Does anybody know whats up with those speed traps (both directions) at the construction site. The flash seems to go off pretty randomly.

Apparently the trap is set at 80kph, but this morning I got a flash at 83, then on the way back at 76kph. Got one at ~85 about 2 months back...never received a ticket.

Colleges report also seeing a flash at 70kph.

I've also seen people breeze past them at 90 with no flash.

Is this some new tactic to discourage speeding that I'm unaware of.

Yes, it's an 80 camera. Been there for a while now actually.
When I drove past it last time, a guy came flying past me. I reckon he's getting a visit from the postman, it flashed at him.

Talked to someone else about it & he mentioned it might be photographing the back of the car. i.e. Its random because its photographing the opposite lane.

Not sure how plausible that is.

ssounds like China. cameras flash everyone. all the time.

I drive past it every day, both directions. Never seen it flash randomly, every time it did flash, it was for a speeding vehicle. :) Never me though. :p

Flew past the thing in Feb at 120km/h....was away for holidays, they erected it while i was gone. It flashed me but i have never received a ticket, think it is just there for scare tactics.

Yip, got me in Feb as well, was going to durbs so its was like 3:00 at night, was doing 120km, flashed and never got the ticket, this thing has flashed me 3 times doing 80km. (never got those tickets as well)
On the 20th April, was coming home late at night, completely forgot about the thing, doing 120 again but it did not flash....weird camera

I go North/South on that road every day. Sometimes it flashes, sometimes I doesn't, never received a ticket though.

It is almost certainly a dummy.
Starting to think that too. Flashed today again. At 75ish with the rest of the traffic also at <80.

Wasn't there something about not being allowed to trap in a construction zone? I recall something like that but maybe that changed w/ AARTO.
