Hi Forum,
about 5 weeks ago I woke up with a slight pain under my left foot (bang in the middle). At first I thought it was a bed bug or a small issue. A week later It had a purple type look to it with a perfect round red ring around it. It eventually burst and all the poison obviously came out. But then it became impossible to walk since then and it's like 4 weeks later.
Most of the pus drained out and I am left now with a huge mess under my foot. There is a scab that has formed but there is still an open wound that just will not heal.
The pus still drains often no matter how much I press it out . My mom thinks it was obviously a spider or something because it seems to have eaten alot of the flesh under the surface away. Luckily new skin is generating but it's like 1 step forward,2 steps back with this thing.I just want the wound to dry out but having no luck.
I googled this and someone says it may be abscess? Do I need to have it checked by a doc? It seems to be healing and I am on the road to recovery but I just want the scab to form over and heal properly. Any suggestions on what I can do to finally dry out the wound out.

Doc right now. I currently have a dew drop bite on my thigh. Sore, the runs, minor abscess long gone. BUT.... nowhere near what you describe - could be button or worse spider.

haha I'm broke ...very broke.
If it was REALLY bad, wouldn't I have been in so much agony ? Like at this moment the wound throbs a little and his it's own 'pulse'.
I can post a few pics .... but yeah maybe I should just get to the doctor for an antibiotic

Go to the doctor now. My friend was bitten on his leg by a spider a couple of months ago and same thing happened. It would not get better and they had to cut the flesh out. Once that was done it healed quickly.

Cut the flesh out my foot  It seems to be healing. The scab surrounding the wound seems to be forming but the initial 'crater' is still moist.
The entire area around the foot is kind of sensitive though. Maybe I will just go get on the antibiotics and the doc can give me an injection possibly :(

well here are some pics....

Pic 1 - taken 16 july (After the initial purple stage)

Yeah just looking at pics...it is definetely healing alot better.must have been one little potent ***king bug or spider!
Won't take any chances next time...will go straight the doc. thanks guys

I don't see what you see.

well if I look at it today,It is not nearly as inflamed and the opening is shrinking daily. I get some slight pains now and then but at least I am able to walk alright these days.I think Mercurochrome actually helped alot!
I should have gone to the doctor back in the beginning definetely...but I guess I learned my lesson.I mean seriously though any other region (well expect one) would have been fine, but in the middle of my foot. Damn that first week I had to walk on haunches everywhere! Then my muscle at the back of my foot got fcked up from standing on haunches too much. It's been a fcking episode I just want to get over with now.I'm tired of health issues.... yesterday morning I woke up and I can feel an internal lump on my coccyx. I can't stand this nonsense...it's not like we have any control over 98% of health issues

Dude, my friends leg looked like that. It's not that much flesh they cut out and it was under local. That crater is going to stay moist while it tries to scab over.

I'm no doctor but leaving it is not going to end well for you I reckon.

As MickeyD said go to a state hospital, it's not that bad & you don't require heart surgery.

I had a 28 square cm wound, 1/2 inch deep after surgery recently. (yes 28 square cm !) and the prognosis was that it would take about a year to heal.

I went to a wound specialist and she treated me with a product called "Melladerm Plus Phyto" and the wound healed perfectly in 6 weeks with minimal scarring.

The product contains honey and aloe and is quite expensive. Get it at the chemist (they will order it in because is is expensive) get a small tube (+/- R400)

Put the ointment into the wound (hole) and bandage closed to air (important ... that's what makes it work). Change the dressing daily.

The stuff kills the germs and promotes new tissue growth. Stuff is awesome !!!

Honey has long been known for it's wound healing properties. Can't think why this concoction you mention should be so pricey.

Probably the formulation, packaging, margins etc.

I went through 2 tubes of the stuff so for R800 I did not mind cause I healed very quickly without any pain, irritation or discomfort.

You can check out a picture of the wound here -> http://computerguy-za.com/wound.jpg - I apologize up front as it is not my intention of highjacking this thread.

Medical honey has been processed so it has less microbes(?) or something to that effect.

Don't **** around with spider bites. You can't see what's happening under the surface.

Doctor. Now.

I rmbr years back after hiking in the Berg, got bitten by a spider on inner thigh. Ended up with a gold ball sized abcess that "leaked" these little black balls and yellow/green puss. Roll on 30 odd years and I still have a hollow that I can stick the tip of my pinky finger into!

I've been bitten twice over the past five years, the first time on my head and the most recent on my inside leg. Back then I did a bit of research (to avoid having to go to the doc) and, correct me if I'm wrong, but you get two types: neurotoxic and cytotoxic. The one isn't a big deal and will improve in a few days though the colour will stay for weeks, the other type is very dangerous and will effectively cause rotting flesh and won't heal by itself and can spread.

The one you've got looks like the bad type. Get to a doctor ASAP.

Mine turned out to be the relatively harmless type. Thanks to Google and medical web sites I could identify it by the pics.

Have a look here, perhaps ask these guys for comment: The Spider Club Of South Africa
What are the signs and symptoms of spider bites?

The signs and symptoms of spider bites depend on many factors; these include:

Neurotoxic or cytotoxic venom
Amount of venom injected
Health of the patient (e.g. allergies)
Age of the patient (small children and elderly are more adversely affected)
Site of the bite

The signs and symptoms from a bite from a spider with neurotoxic venom differ to those produced by a spider with cytotoxic venom. The severity of the symptoms depends on the species of spider as the symptoms of bites from different species of Loxosceles can range from unremarkable, localised, dermonecrotic, to systemic.

Neurotoxic venom bite:

Affects neuromuscular junctions
Severe pain in chest and abdomen
(cramp-like pains)
Breathing difficulties, heart palpitations
Nausea and vomiting
Sweating, fever, excessive salivation
Increased blood pressure
Rash may develop
Symptoms usually start about 1-3 hours after being bitten
More severely affected are children and elderly

Cytotoxic venom bite:

Affects cellular tissue and usually restricted to area of the bite
Initial bite is painless but symptoms develop about 2-8 hours later, area becomes painful and swollen
Eventually a blister may form over a necrotic lesion which then sloughs to create an ulcerated wound
(up to 10cm)
Ulcer will heal over months and leave behind a scar. In extreme cases, skin grafts may be necessary
In severe cases, systemic conditions may occur, e.g. thrombocytopaenia, DIC, renal failure
