right so my old SD DUAL VIEW PVR crashed last night with a BE1 code - just as the rugby started!

frantic phone calls & internet searches revealed that it's fatal and that multichoice won't repair or reload software due to the phasing out of all SD decoders.

So anyone in Cape Town that can manually load the software - cause it seems to me that dstv can do it - but they won't in order to force me to buy the new HD explorer? I was going to get the new dstv HD explorer but have since discovered that it won't work with my old dual LNB and 60cm dish- which to upgrade could set me back another R2,5 - 3k

anyway I managed to successfully stream (wifi) the rugby to my laptop (first time) via the dstv live site - so at least I was able to enjoy that!

so now I'm planning on cancelling my dstv premium account - and since I have R700 spare every month where can I get the tv series & movies I would normally enjoy on dstv?

A good place to start is Unotelly. That removes region locking (free 8 day trial). I'm watching the rugby via https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/itv for example.

Then look at Hulu (free and paid versions) and Netflix. Also consider the local flavours like Vidi and what-it's-name (no region unlocking required).

thanks biometrics busy looking at them now

what media box do you recommend? my mede8er seems to be way to slow when it comes to wifi streaming compared to the old laptop?

Have seen someone having great success with a Minix.
Might be time to upgrade to a Smart Tv though, and stream directly from your wifi modem.
I just configured LG's Smartshare for Windows program to stream anything from the PC to the TV via wifi, and it is so easy to just download what you want to watch....

not so sure about this live (dstv) streaming thing - just battled for the last hour to get my dstv card linked again so that I can watch the last 2min of carte blanche!!

every damn time I click on play it takes me to the "link smart card" page! where it says my card is linked!! call center is just as useless!! if this is how the other forms of live streaming work then I might as well cough up and continue with dstv until something better comes along.
