I've got a bit of an issue at present which is that my TV is hooked up to my PC, along with another 23" screen which is the primary monitor. All video goes out to the TV screen and that leaves the 23" potentially freed up for gaming by myself, with headphones, while the TV is in use. But I can't seem to manage to split the audio so that one source came out through say VLC, and another came out through say, the primary sound driver, at the same time.

It's a bit of a long shot but does anyone know of a solution for this? If I must get a soundcard to do it that's fine, I just need to know if it can be done at all.

Thanks!

Yes, it can be done and afaik you need a separate sound card. I do so for djing...

I am assuming the TV is connected via HDMI? If so you should be able to select the output device in VLC to output only to the normal sound card as the HDMI sound is a separate device.

Seems to, or does? :D

It works. But my speakers are connected to the PC so it only outputs the stereo tv speaker sound, and it only has a single audio out on the back. I've got a set of 2.1's I can hook up in the meanwhile but at least this solves the problem. Thanks!

Go for a separate sound card.
it's far easier.
Or you could splice your cables and go single channel.
But that will suck.

Set it up like a DJ setup.
2 cards, route the channels.
