Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close.

After we receive this error pc has to be shut down and restarted before the user can continue his printing.

Background info:
Printer is shared to other users who print from the suffering pc.
Network Printer
Model OKI C3300

Does anyone know what might be a possible fix for this problem? :o

Things You'll Need:

Administrator rights

1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers, delete everything in this folder, do the same thing in here C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers
If it says file is in used that you can not delete, then you need to reboot your PC and go into safe mode by holding the F8 key.
2. From Start, right click "My Computer" and choose "Manage", click the "+" sign to expand the "Service and Applications" from the left panel. Then select "Services".
3. Scroll down to "Printer Spool" on the right panel, highlight it and click on "Stop the service".

4. Click on "Restart the service". And close the Computer Management window. This method will work most of the time, otherwise, you need to uninstall the other printer drivers and re-install them.

agree with NonNom but,

If the Spooler subsystem repeatedly crashes (every time you print) then the problem might be elsewhere.

Possible solutions:

i) Make sure you have the latest (correct) printer driver.
ii) downgrade to an older printer driver version (go from PCL6 to PCL5 etc)
iii) try the "HP LaserJet IIIP" driver (compatible with most lasers)
iv) enable "font substitution" on printer driver advanced page.

Also, if the printing subsystem crashes on the print server PC (when a client PC prints), delete all drivers from all client PC's and re-install the driver on the server (replace the existing one) + share the printer + connect form clients (the clients will download the updated driver from the print server)

& if all else fails, sell the Oki on bidorbuy and get an HP.

Hey,

Thanks for this advice. I will try it when next I am at their premises.

@nomnom I also googled it and followed similar instructions. That itself is not a long term sollution nor did it work.
Problem with this guy's pc is that its so full of clutter. If i had to format it (in the event I broke something), i would never be able to backup all his files lol..

I'm carefull when I work on the pc (Making system restore points and backing up drivers, registry, before I remove anything). But fixing something like this is such a PAIN because I can't simulate the problem so I will be trying something new every day and leave to hear from him later the next day if it worked or not.

I may just make him a batch file to see if that solves the problem temporarily. (restarting print spooler).

Cheers for all your input in helping me resolve this problem :) Ah how I hate printers

P.S. on the subject of HP, which 2009-2011 model would you recommend, one that would have easily available generic toner cartridges. :)
