Spotify finally getting high-fidelity plan

Spotify Technology SA is planning a more expensive subscription option that’s expected to include high-fidelity audio in an effort to drive more revenue and placate investors who’ve been saying the company should raise its prices.

Dubbed “Supremium” internally, according to people familiar with the strategy, the new tier will be Spotify’s most expensive plan and likely offer a HiFi feature the company first announced it was working on in 2021.

Interesting to see Spotify rolling out this 1st to other countries before USA

The sound quality is decent enough for me, don't need this. The podcasts in my face chased me away.
Youtube Music, with focus on music, is also decent enough.

Lol...

Where do they suddenly get this hi-fidelity files from. Seeing that many digital distributors let you upload mp3, or simply a mp3 to wav convert. And the decent ones pretty much only get redbook uploads.

What problem does it solve?

Audiophiles that couldn't feel superior.

Seriously though, competition to Tidal, Amazon HD etc. There is a definite market for high quality streaming - not everyone listens to their music on a air pod whilst gymming.
