Finally someone is talking some sense regarding the Springbok emblem ..... when this first came to the fore I was thinking I had heard before that black and coloured players had used the emblem too. Good on you Mr Nkanunu for setting things straight.

The Springbok emblem was also used by black and coloured players before unity and linking it exclusively with white identity does not take historical factors into account.

“You won’t be helping the transformation-agenda by shooting the Springbok,” Nkanunu said on Wednesday.

“The removal of the Springbok won’t change the fact that enough resources aren’t ploughed into the development of the game.

“I find the debate strange because black and coloured players were considered Springboks prior to unity,” he said.

I think there are forces out there and in government that will not rest until the Springbok has been permanently removed from our memory banks.

It's not so much a racist symbol, but rather a sport with a majority white following. I just suspect it's who da boss now, than anything else.
