Springbok starting 15 against NZ

I have confidence in Big Joe. His ability to delay a pass or get his hands through a tackle often create those try scoring opportunities. He also has heaps of experience and a lot to prove to the UK club that cancelled his contract and his detractors.

Jacobs on attack is the perfect foil alongside Jean, but I am worried about his defensive qualities.

Odwa, while I agree he plays with passion, he is not good enough to play international rugby. They should have stuck with Chavanga or possibly played Steyn on the wing. Steyn would have the ability to drop back to assist the fullback with defensive duties and kick the hell out of the ball.

Watson is the best player to be on the bench for Schalk. Spies would not be the right guy for that job. I must say I would like to see Spies tried on the wing.

Good luck boys, I have not been this uptight about a game of rugby for a while.

Chavanga... ;)

Spies on outside senter or wing would also work... NZ use guys like Spies to play the position...

Chavanga, hehe, almost as bad as the Spies suggestion. jmo
Did you watch the tests he played recently?

Like I've said...

He has had an awesome season, now because of 2 tests you dont want to give him another chance... His got the same spark as Habana, he has that magic, he doesnt just finish tries he makes them from nothing aswell... The Ndugane brothers dont have that... They get the ball 4 metres infront of the line with no one infront of them and score...

Habana and Chavanga get the ball with 40 metres left, a whole team infront of them and score... I agree he has had 2 bad games in the bok jersey, but give the guy a chance to show himself...

Morning.

Damn what a line up

We're going to have massive problems if the line is spread out to the right.
The area at the end of the field 13/14 & cover defence 15 will be a massive problem.

Don't get me wrong Conrad is great on attack, his defence is a problem. Our 13/14 is not going to stop the centre pair, full back or any wings that NZ has :( I have to agree with some previous posts I would much rather have Steyn and Monty on that side.

As for Big Joe and Spies. I'm little confused but Joe will stand that spot full. I would have had Spies on the bench at least instead of Watson. If Burger needs to come off I would put Joe in his place and bring on Spies.

But appart from those areas I think PDV got the team right as everyone predicted

The man has pace but really not much else from a rugby perspective. There is no substitute for pace, but you still have to be an reasonable ball player.
Those tests he played in he was absolutely awful, not just bad.
But hey, opinions will always differ.

Hi Pitbull
I think we will hold them to a point on the outside.
Looks like it will be wet so not as fast as the AB's would probably like.
Nonu and Smith could well be to much to handle and I think we will see Monty and Steyn on sooner rather than later.

Watson, bleh.

Schalk, people are making a lot of this being his first match back. Do you think he wont pay the 80? I would be surprised if he did not actually.

Why doesnt people like Luke Watson either? Do you have something against WP players or something :P Watson is also a great playmaker, works hard, but I have to agree that sometimes he doesnt think... He keeps the pace of the game going, but that is good with new old new rules ;)

Just remember test rugby and S14 rugby are worlds appart.... But i would have like to have seen him in a test against one of the top test countries in the world... Who knows maybe he can prove everyone wrong.

Habana only scores when he intercepts these days. The almost always have two guys on him when he touches the ball.

When you are good you are marked man.
Just ask Lomu playing against SA in 95.

We have yet to unleash the potential in our backline.
As Habana rightly said on BnA last night.
Contribution is made not just by scoring tries, its helping those around you, defence, looking for work.
As long as he is on the field, they have to keep a close eye on him and that creates opportunities for others

100% agree with you on that :)

Also that try against Italy in wet conditions....wow:eek:

Adrian Jacobs included in a midfield when you have the talented World Cup-winner Frans Steyn available doesn’t make sense. He may stand up in a one-off, but if Jacobs was to suddenly become a consistently good defender at international level and a performer in tight games, then it would defy everything that he has done in his career so far.

The only odd man out when it comes to World Cup representation is Joe van Niekerk, but then Big Joe has 47 test caps, he has played in New Zealand before, he has beaten the All Blacks on a couple of occasions in South Africa.

He is 100% correct when he says that Jake White messed his career around when he played him at No 6 when Schalk Burger was injured. That said, Van Niekerk has better breakdown skills than the other specialist No 8s in the squad, and that justifies his selection.

He does suck. What was he supposed to have done in the games against Wales and Italy? Fetch the ball. Did he? No. So what chance do you think he'd have of fetching against NZ?

He is in the team just to show that it is PDV's team and not Jakes's team. So let's just get over this and stop carrying statements in the line up. The guys must be there becuase they're the best.

I am a huge AD Jacobs fan. I've seen him put in plenty of defence. I would have thought that people would have picked on him for dying with the ball. But I think he got out of the habit over the last few seasons.
