Spur boycott hitting some franchises hard

Why is it sad? Spur food is crap and expensive. It has its place as a sort of family venue to take the brats out, but thats about it.
 
Maybe its because their monday deal is no more.
Now no reason at all to go.
 
Can this be blamed on the incident alone? The only reason we have been visiting Spur less than usual is because other Restaurants and Restaurant Chains have started offering specials the are competitive as well. Papachino's is one, for example.
 
Chief operating officer of Spur Mark Farrelly says the boycott is largely restricted to areas that “would previously have voted for the Conservative Party”. He confirmed to Daily Maverick that it “certainly has impacted” Spur’s business. Farrelly declined to put a figure on the total toll it has taken, but later referred to the man in the video who received a ban as having “created millions of rands worth of damage in terms of the bottom line”.

Nope, Spur did that on its own.

And even after suffering like that you still say:

Farrelly believes that much of the anger from certain sectors of the white Afrikaner population is based on the circulation of fake news and misconceptions about the incident. He says that most people only saw half the total video footage, and that the full footage – which Spur has in its possession – makes the situation crystal clear. “But we are not going to put that footage out to endanger a child,” he says. “We’ve said: ‘Come to our offices. You can view it there. But nothing leaves our premises.’”

That makes no sense.



I haven't gone to Spur in quite a while because of quality/portion sizes decreasing in relation to cost, but these statements by Spur corporate makes me want to stay away.
Also, why does the site blame right wingers? It has nothing to do with "The Front Nasionaal" party, connecting a lot of dots that don't exist.

I'm also not white afrikaner.
 
Yeah uh no we (family) only went because of the Monday burger thing. The rest of the food is horribly expensive and mediocre quality at best

Now if they do that bottomless coke and Monday burger two for one special again , then I am there like a bear
 
Portions are getting smaller and smaller so the Spur is not the value for money like it used to be. Also the Monday night special is over so would rather support other restaurants that offer better value.
 
I had long since forgotten about that incident but also don't go to Spur anymore. Prices and quality are abysmal. Literally any other restaurant can provide a better experience.

credit for the idea of a Spur boycott has been claimed by the Front Nasionaal, the right-wing political party formed before the 2014 elections that failed to win a single parliamentary seat. On Facebook, the Front Nasionaal lists among its activities for March 2017:

"Ons loods ook die 'Boikot Spur' veldtog na ‘n rasse-insident waar ‘n blanke man by Spur verban word, terwyl ‘n swart vrou aangeprys word vir haar rassistiese optrede. Die boikot bring Spur op sy kniee, tot so ‘n mate dat die hoofbaas en stigter uiteindelik al sy aandele verkoop en onttrek. (“We also launch the 'Boycott Spur’ campaign, after a racial incident where a white man was banned from Spur, while a black woman was praised for her racist actions. The boycott brings Spur to its knees, to such a point that the chief executive and founder eventually sells all his shares and withdraws.)”

Quality has gone down the toilet, while prices have gone up.

Their sauces for example...... R21,90 for some corn flour mixed with water and some crushed peppercorns of dodgy quality....
 
My girlfriend and I agree that Spur should have handled it differently and both parties should have been banned from Spur. Not only the white guy.

We have gone to Spurs only once in the last 2 years. And that was only because of her grandchild's birthday. Otherwise we don't put a foot in Spurs.

The food is to expensive
Food portions gotten smaller.
Service are crap
 
I whent to a Spur 3 - 4 times in the last year and that was only for the Monday burger special and one night when that was the only place still open in a casino complex. Main factors probably price vs food quality, there are a lot of places similarly priced with much better quality food.
I said right from the start, there's more to the founder climbing out with R100 mil in his pocket, he probably saw this coming.
