Spur is booming

Spur is fantastic especially because I have kids and the food tastes good.
There are places with nicer food but then not with play areas for kids.

Good luck going to someplace you don't know and finding a place with a kid's play area.

Just get a bakkie, put some river sand and round stones in the back, boom portable kids play area.

At R99 for a plain burger that's a definite hell no, the only good time is if you go on a Monday for the special.

Having said that we didn't have power last week, so I went to soon to be defunct Forest Hill mall. Their Spur made me an awesome steak with chips/onion rings.
 
Spur is fine. I can be happy at any place that serves beer.

compared to the rest of their over priced menu the steaks might seem like good value, but compared to real steakhouses it is not!

Spur 300g rump = R180 (in my experience about 40% odds of enjoying the steak)
Cattle Baron 300g rump = R205 (in my experience at least 60% odds of enjoying the steak)
Hussar Grill 300g rump = R195 (in my experience at least 80% odds of enjoying the steak)

both Cattle Baron and Hussar Grill will also throw in some creamy spinach and butternut for the table free of charge

R15 more to virtually guarantee a tasty meal vs R15 less and hoping you're lucky today is not "good value" favouring Spur at all imo

I have no gripe with Spur, but it is what it is:
- a desperate refuge for parents
- a menu with decent variety, but average quality
- quite expensive these days, aside from hosting a kiddies party which is cost effective at Spur
- the worst draught beer selection possible

it doesn't have to be craft, I'm not above drinking mass produced commercial beer and my beard is too short with lots of grey coming through :ROFL:

BUT ... when a restaurant offers literally only SAB beers on tap I cringe, hell even a Windhoek would be a nice change of pace, but Spur only offers it bottled ... or if it must be SAB (can only assume they have an agreement with SAB that it must be so), what about some of their other lagers? Hansa? Castle Double Malt? Milk Stout? ... but no sir, fahk you, you will have Castle Lite or Lager or Black Label or you will have nothing!

I’m not a Spur regular so can’t remember for sure, but I recall some of them having Hansa or Windhoek. Maybe I’m confusing them with another place.

I only go to Spur because they have really good facilities for kids.
Their food used to be good value for money but now is priced the same or higher than other decent steak and burger joints but does not taste as good.

We often end up spending more money when going to Spur then we do if we go to places like Bossa who serves much better tasting food.
