Spur steak for 50 cents

Ah yeah, plus when they had specials and you got the knives. Still have two of them, probably about 20 years old now.

I live basically in the bush (it used to be an industrial and economic hub) the closest of those is like 50km away. Back in the day we used to DRIVE to Jhb for steers and nandos. lol

We currently still go to Spur from time to time because... #playarea lol they have got us by the short and curlies. lol
 
Everything just got insanely expensive.

Back in 1993 I could buy a packet of chips, a can of Coca Cola and a slab chocolate for about R5.50

Chips was about 99c
Coca Cola R1.50 or so
Slab chocolate R2.50

Today that same combo

Chips R9.99
Can of Coke (300ml instead of 330ml in the 90s) R10
Slab Chocolate R24.99 for a small one

800% increase in 33 years

Boil the ribs in water with some bay leaves until they are cooked through. Then whilst still warm dip them in a bit of basting. Braai them a couple of hours later. Baste them just before they come off.
 
There was no demand before after all. Only white people who were dining there, then after 1994 more people all ethnicities more demand more supply, price is used to regulate the demand
 
Well, yes prices were cheap back before the day....but then again the Rand was artificially propped up as well. When the Rand was allowed to be floated in 97, it's real value was exposed. The reason given for it at the time by Trevor Manuel etc. was it would create more jobs and we'd all be richer (exactly what the City of London economists told them to say)....and now look, less prosperity, fewer working adults, poorer population, less growth opportunity and more taxation.
