Hi,

I have tried twice now to install SQL server and Visual Studio, both 2008. However, when I try to connect to SQL server through VB I cannot see any server in the drop down list. I am using Windows authentication. I do not want to use a username and pass.

Is there certain steps I have to take to install the applications? Or are my SQL server settings just wrong?

I should mention that I am not too clued up with with SQL Server settings/intallation.

Thanks

I am not too clued up with 2008 either, but I believe there a service "SQL Server Browser" that is disabled in default installation. Open services under administration tools. Look for the service, go to the properties and set startup type to manual and start the service.

I hope it helps.

It must be non 64-bit SQL, if you are using Express download the WoW version.

Hey, nm it does work. I was being silly. I just assumed it would pop up in the dropdown box, cuz thats how it works in the tuks labs. However, I had to type the server name in.

Thanks anyways

k :p

Was gonna say try typing "localhost" or "localhost\SQLSERVER2008". It will be in the dropdown next time, it just keeps a history.
